Topic: Glass bed broke

I can't say I wasn't warned.

Several videos on YouTube have mentioned this, & a few posts here.

Removed a print from the bed yesterday and crack, nice patch out of the glass in the middle.

Amazingly cheap glass!

I bought the printer about 40 days ago, so I'll see what XYZ will offer me.

I'd rather not send this one in and wait...

Re: Glass bed broke

Mine did the same. I still use it. I have seen where you can flip the glass over.

Re: Glass bed broke

Mine is a 1.0A, and it appears that the glass is adhered to the heating element.  I'd love to be able to remove it and use a higher quality glass, but I think the whole bed has to be changed out.

It looks like they offer a 3 month warranty on the bed, so I'll submit a ticket today.

Re: Glass bed broke

all the davinc glass beds have the heater element adhered to the back. if you are carful using acetone you can remove it. however its easier jut to put a new piece of glass on top of the broken one. that's what I did.

Re: Glass bed broke

mark.burton is right, its a lot easier to put a piece of glass on top of the print bead than trying to remove the heating element. just be sure you get a big enough piece, i use a 8.25x8.25 piece i got at lowes on my 1.0 and that works fine.

Re: Glass bed broke

The OEM glass cracked on mine in a few months.
I bought a replacement from davincizone on ebay. "XYZPrinting DaVinci 3D Printer Borosilicate glass and heater"
He initially sold them from Voltivo.
Very nice boro glass. A world of difference for sticking and removing.
Heating element adhered to glass w/ the correct connectors.

Upadte: ckd his store and I see nothing. They were $60 w/ shipping.

Re: Glass bed broke

Nice thanks.  Do they have to be cut at all to fit the bed clips?  Or do you extend the clips up?

Re: Glass bed broke

Received a reply from davincizone today:
"I ran out of heaters and when I went to order more, the Chinese New Year had everything shut down.
Received my order of heaters yesterday and busy assembling them today. They'll be ready to ship out tomorrow."

Re: Glass bed broke

Speaking of heaters, it looks like XYZ printing will send the heating element separate from the glass, as seen in this video:

https://youtu.be/m5NyMmTTNW4

I will have a replacement bed coming from them, maybe I can request that they not adhere the heating element to the glass.  I could then use aluminum, or whatever glass I want...
