Topic: daVinci 1.0 Pro bed WILL NOT GO TO 110C probably ever

I've been pushing XYZprinting to allow us to set the print bed to 110C AS THEY ADVERTISED before many of us bought this printer.

Today I received an email from them with a new 1.0 Pro manual attachment that now states the print bed can be set from 40C to 90C. That is their answer to fixing the issue.

I responded giving them until Friday to reconsider or I will be filing a false and deceptive advertising complaint with my state's consumer protection agency. And they do pursue these things.

So beware if your considering buying one of these printers.

Man, I've read a lot of complaints about XYZprinting but I did not think they'd really be this low and underhanded.

Why would you need 110 degrees for the bed?  I've been printing for years now, and only set to 90 degrees, and it works fine.  If you have sticking problems, use a glue stick, or print on glass.   I haven't had any luck trying to print on masking tape.  The best thing I have found to stick objects well is Oatey Pvc Abs glue, found at the hardware store. ( the kind you use to glue pvc pipe together-clear.)  I'm no fan boy of any of these manufacturers, but my Da Vinci Pro works well as I described.  I assume you are using Abs, as PLA does not require a heated bed.

Re: daVinci 1.0 Pro bed WILL NOT GO TO 110C probably ever

I had shrinking/curling up problems at the corners of things at 90C. i use blue painters tape and glue sticks, haven't had the problem recently but haven't printed the items that had the shrinking/curling up problem nor things like those.

XYZprinting advertised the printer bed could be set to 110C. When they delivered the printer it could only go to 90C. Instead of fixing the software and allowing it to do to 110C they changed the documentation to now say 90C.

So they deceptively advertised the printer bed could be set to 110C when it couldn't. That is illegal I do believe. So they should follow through on their claim or offer compensation for selling an item under false pretenses. They should not be allowed to get away with tactics such as this scott free.

That is the issue.

Actually the PRO *Can* go up to 110....

If you set it in the printer, then it will go that high; however the xyzware overrides the printer setting and you know that xyzware only goes to 90...

Answer is to print your things with microsofts 3D builder, which does not set or override the bed settings, so you can set the temp to 110.

The better answer is to use Simplify3D to print your things and then you have complete control over your bed temps. (Simplify3D is not yet ready for the PRO version, but soon it will be)

Re: daVinci 1.0 Pro bed WILL NOT GO TO 110C probably ever

Yeah that I know, I have it set to 110C in the console, but like you said that gets overridden and not used when printing.

Although I despise anything Microsoft preferring UNIX, Linux or OS X, MS 3D builder sounds like an option and since it's free I may just try it. Thank you for that suggestion.

Simpligy3D; Yes, I contacted them in November regarding supporting the 1.0 Pro and again this morning to see if there has been any progress. That is definitely an option I would embrace.

I've played around with slic3r then made a 3w file with it's MIME encoded gcode and pulled it into XYZware for Pro. When I send it to the Pro the display gets stuck at 'Building Initializing' and looks like it's stuck not doing anything. However I left one build sit while I was Goole'n some more and low and behold it started printing. However, it wasn't laying anything down on the bed so I though it wasn't feeding.

The display was still stuck at 'Building Initializing'  and the printer would not respond to any buttons. It never displayed the warming up screen so I had no idea what the temperature of the extruder or bed were. So I connected to with XYZware and saw there that indeed the bed temperature was 110C. So that was good news. I had it in the back of my mind that maybe the printers firmware may not allow it.  I then had to power cycle the printer to stop it.

What I found was a ball of extruded filament on the extruder. But, I do not know if that was there from a previously aborted print the other day that went bonkers, or due to a Z axis offset issue which I've seen reported with slic3r and the Pro. I'm not usually that sloppy, but when I aborted that print is was the wee hours of the morning so didn't clean things up. And last night again it was real late but I wanted to try one more thing... If you know how that goes....

I need to revisit this when I have the time to dedicate to it, I haven't given up.

Got a response from XYZprinting:

There are some issues when the print bed is over 110 degrees, the print bed might be dented and the heating element will bot be able to support this.

The advertisement/manual was a documentation error.

That's one heck of a 'documentation error'... In every bit of promo they put out...
