Topic: Noob Question...

I've had my Da Vinci 1.0A for a little more than a week now and I am trying to learn the ropes.

I have been trying, without success, to print this object:

http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:624569

I am able to do everything except the body without any problem.

The first few times I printed, the arms on the monster would not stick to the bed properly. I tried printing again with a raft, and that did the trick. The arms stayed glued to the bed and I the body was printing beautifully. However, when the printer gets to the railings and the posts, the printer gets gummed up and starts making a stringy mess of things. The railings and posts never print properly.

Is this a calibration issue?

You cannot print over open air. The arms is what we refer to as overhangs. All overhangs must have supports under them. Supports are thin break away extrusions that are printed under them and removed once finished. There should be a support option in your host software. Any angle greater than 45 degrees will need support under it.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!
