Topic: Ctc question on threads

Hello all,
I have a ctc and I managed to loose the set screw that holds the extruder heater amd I don't know way thread it was. I can't seem to find it anywhere. All I know is that it's metric. If anyone knows, please let me know. Thanks

Re: Ctc question on threads

If you can not find the set-screws at a hardware supplier like Newark,
you could always get a new heat-block with set-screw, on eBay.
for about $2.
Sorry, I don't know thread size, but I do have some heater-blocks on order myself,
and could check size when I get them, if you still need it then.

They are much smaller than an M2. I would say more like an m1. It is the same size as the one on an extruder gear.

Re: Ctc question on threads

Thanks for the reply. I've gone to the hardware store and try have nothing below m3. I'll order some m1.5 online.

Re: Ctc question on threads

The metric-thread chart, that I have, does Not list a m1.5 size !
it goes from 1.4 to 1.6

I've not received those blocks yet, since coming from China sad

Note: this website shows same thing

Re: Ctc question on threads

I just saw that the chart  gives 1.4x.2, 1.4x.3,1.6x.2,1.6x.35.
Anyone know which of these it would be?

Re: Ctc question on threads

Are you sure the screw is that small? I'm pretty sure the extruder gear and pulleys on my solidoodle are M3's (which incidentally use a 1.5mm hex key).

I have the same machine just the metal version. They are a 2mm screw and require a 1.5mm hex key. I just measured mine since I was moving my defective extruders nozzle up for know.

Not to doubt your measurements, but if you're right then you have a completely unique set screw, which seems like a terrible waste of time and money on the part of CTC.

1.5mm hex just doesn't fit onto a 2mm set screw (the hex corner-to-corner is larger than the thread's minor diameter). Please check both those numbers? I really don't want to see the OP get sent off to special order a freaky microscopic set screw when they could have bought something in a hobby shop... smile

Re: Ctc question on threads

Well he or some body else will need to measure then. I put mine back  together already. Those screws are behind a fan and heatsink that has to be removed and on my machine I also have to remove the pressure spring on the extruder. I did not notice but did he say he lost both? CTC to my knowledge was/is pushing only dual extruder printers. The feed tubes are both inserted through a six inch long aluminum block then each locked in 0lace with their own set screw. So just measure the other one while it is apart.
