Re: Editing Settings in Makerbot, Replicator-G & Simplify3D software

Well, I encountered the Same Stair-step problem, when using Replicator-G,
that I'd been seeing when using Makerbot ! sad

I was trying to print 2 spool-holder bases, at same time, (the type you put roller-bearings in)
(They almost filled the bed area but are not very tall)
They were 6 layers higher on one side. sad

Guess I'll need to try 'Something Completely Different' software,
because this problem is 'Not Acceptable' ! sad

Re: Editing Settings in Makerbot, Replicator-G & Simplify3D software

Simplify3d will export to xg3 format. Just put it on an sdcard or USB stick which ever your model supports and print directly from the card or stick.

Mine will only communicate on a pc running XP. This is due to the firmware mine is running. So I have to put all my prints on my SDcard after slicing with Simplify3d.  This is fine and works well until I get ready to explore dual color.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

??? I was trying to get Info about the Stair-step problem, not about exporting to SD or Stick ??

I'm exporting to .stl files, connecting thru USB-cable, on W-10 OS.

The only thing I've found that I don't like about Simplify3D, so far,
is the incomplete and strange way it auto generates Supports .
Puts supports where they are Not needed and leaves out many where they Are needed,
and Strangely it builds a Raft of Supports, under object, where not needed ! ??

Everything else is looking great, but I have Not sent anything to printer yet.
I will try that tomorrow . smile

Try not to stick with the same trap. I mentioned exporting so you could bypass the makerbot software and RepG all together since they seem to be your issue with the Z offset.

The raft can be turned off, the supports can be turned off, and you can move them around and remove the ones you want as well as add more. As I said this software is about control.

Re: Editing Settings in Makerbot, Replicator-G & Simplify3D software

LOL smile
But I like using my 'USB-cable'  smile
Much Faster and Simpler than using SD or Stick.
And I'm fairly sure they would not solve the Stair-step Problem,
but I suppose I should try it just to make sure.

Hopefully the software testing tomorrow will be more Positive .

I had raft turned off, but it built one with Supports yikes
the object was Flat on bed, but it Stuck Supports under it Anyway !

Re: Editing Settings in Makerbot, Replicator-G & Simplify3D software

I tried using Simplified3D and it was sending data to printer but had a problem,
before it started printing, so could not check print quality.

When I change Temp setting of extruder it Always set Temp to 230C, at printer.
I tried lowering it several times, at different temps, but always went back to 230 sad

It's definitely saving the changes in process settings
but not getting to printer, when print is started ???

Anyone know Why ???

Note: it looks like it is using the Wrong G-code (script) command for Bed-temp (M140 instead of M109)
but looks correct for Extruder-temp (M104 S190 T0), which should be 190C, not 230

Well, it's back to Fighting with Rep-G software, for large objects,
since I can Not get Simplify3D to change temp at printer.
(even when I select PVA, which is preset to 195C, it still goes to 230C) sad

Maybe someone will develop some 'Good software' Soon ???

Re: Editing Settings in Makerbot, Replicator-G & Simplify3D software

I found a way to Decrease the Stair-step (Z-offset) problem,
when using Makerbot software.

By reducing the complexity of the print,
Like reducing wall thickness layers (shells) and reducing Infill percentage

the slicer must not be allocating enough memory space, or something like that ??

Note: reducing shells from 4 to 3 greatly reduced the problem

Maybe I've missed it, but have you ever posted a picture of the "stair stepping" affect?

No, but I would be Glad to, next time it happens,
if you think that will Help solve the problem ??

Not much to see though, filament is normal at one side of object
and laying Loose at other side, since that side has no first layers

the print I did this morning only had 1 step, so it was acceptable,
it had 3 steps before I reduced shells.

Note: I checked trash to see if any were still there but all have been discarded

I don't see How, but Okay !

Since the problem is definitely in the slicer software.
And I don't think I can change the Slicer in Makerbot-3.7 ?

Re: Editing Settings in Makerbot, Replicator-G & Simplify3D software

I found some free software , at Flashforge, that is similar to Makerbot software.
But evidently it's Only for their Dreamer model.
so I could Not try it, to see if it has the Stair-step problem. sad
(it loads & runs great, but won't connect to printer)

So, I'm still looking, if anyone knows of 'Good' host/slicer software,
that will work with CTC printer ??

Sorry, but I'm not going to Waste filament just to get a picture, of a failed print,
by going back to those settings, that I sometimes prefer, but for most objects are Not necessary.
(like 4 shells instead of 3, and Higher % infill)

I'm now working on ways to 'improve and solve' the problem.
I'm now sure that finding Better or more Compatible host/slicer software is the Only way to do that.

When and if it happens again, I Will get a picture tho ! smile

Re: Editing Settings in Makerbot, Replicator-G & Simplify3D software

I guess that's up to you, continuing to think that for some reason your machine is unique to the world of 3dprinting has yielded nothing.  Perhaps it's time to take advice from those of us with more experience than yourself.  The problems (and they are numerous) you are having have little to do with the quality of the softwares you are using.  The answer to your "stair stepping" problem is simple and most of us have the solution.  But as long as you (or the group of you) refuse to do anything in the way of helping us help you, don't expect the answer.  I find it difficult to believe there is only one user behind this user name as well.  Although I am not aware of any rule that prohibits multiple users utilizing one username I think it's about time we put one in place.  I have followed every one of your posts since the day you registered and have been skeptical since day one.
When you finally decide you truly want help it may be too late.
3dprinting has a very steep learning curve for all of us.  We've all made really stupid mistakes and made our own luck.  What sets you apart from most users has been your ability to constantly get in your own way.
I would have preferred you simply state that you don't have the understanding or ability to post a picture.

I gave up on him/them as well Ward. He is not even willing to except input from someone who has the same printer and thst has dissected it down to firmware level. He is convinced the printer itself cannot be the problem when I found a host of issues with my higher model.

Re: Editing Settings in Makerbot, Replicator-G & Simplify3D software

For anyone that has same Stair-step problem or is interested,
I solved the problem by going back to Makerbot version 2.4

Evidently version 3.7 is not completely compatible with firmware in printer.

Note: I won't be posting here again until changes are made at this website
