Topic: Changing extruder drive gear

Hey folks,
I think I have gotten to the point where my drive gear needs changed.  I have seen folks say they are using MK8 gears and that sounds like a good fix.  However, no one seems to talk about how they are changing them. 

The stepper motor seems to have the gear pressed onto the armature.  How are you getting it off of there?  I do not see any set screws and I have never seen a gear puller that small.  Before I burn it with fire and start rapping on it with a hammer, does anyone care to share how they are doing it.

Also, what are folks doing to change the idler wheel that goes along side?

When I upgraded my extruder I changed mine, had to cut it off with a dremel.

Da Vinci  AiO with firmware 1.1.1 using xyzscan 1.1.18
E3Dv6 hotend with custom carriage with Borosilicate glass bed
123D Design and Simplify3D, Replaced PS with a Solidgear Flex320
Zerokart resetter,  Installed a Extruder Controller for higher temps

Was it just pressed on or was there some sort of ridge or flange in there?

They are pressed on.

To make the swap they are buying a new motor as well. You can find them with the proper connector on ebay for about 12 to 15 bucks each. Just look for NEMA 17 stepper motors then llok for the ones with a connector versus solid wires.

Sorry for all the questions but this thread will probably help others.  I see many NEMA 17.  This measures at @ 40 mm So that part makes sense, but what is the measurement in oz all about?

Thats the torque rating. A higher number is better but XYZ just used standard common number motors on this printer so pretty much any of the motors on ebay with the connector will work.

Hmm, just a thought. If I am buying a new stepper, might as well look at bowden rig.  Any suggestions?

I didn't do the bowden setup but I upgraded to the E3Dv6

I was going to put a Pico on my 1.0 but I decided to sell the 1.0. The Pico is going on my Mini Kossel rebuild and then it is getting sold to. I have to recover some of the $600 I spent on this CTC Dual all metal I just bought.
