Topic: Where can I get new Solidoodle 3 Extruder?
I broke some of the plastic around my extruder while fixing a clog. I can't find the extruder parts for a Solidoodle 3 on the website?

this should get you fixed up any one of these 3 will do but there are others on thingi verse that should work

You can order a printed Lawsy MK5 from filastruder.com for something like $5.
While you're there do yourself a favor and pick up a new E3D v6 or LITE6 and stop dealing with clogs.
Thanks, will do. I never get clogs with ABS but was trying to print with PLA and get a ton of clogs. The PLA melts high up and then bends and clogs up top.
I'm going to pick up the E3Dv6, the extra options for print materials looks awesome.
Couple questions?
What other parts to I need besides the E3Dv6 in order to fit it onto my stock SD3?
12v or 24v? I can hook up my volt meter if necessary though.
Any other tips for making the transition to the new E3Dv6?
The SD3 is 12v and you want to make sure you choose the 1.75 option.
The nozzle you have is likely a .35 and I would recommend ordering a .4
It wouldn't hurt to pick up a .6 while you're there.
You will need to look over your profiles in Slic3r and make sure they are set for a .4 and calibrated to an extrusion width of .48.
The change over requires a firmware update and I would be happy to talk you through that process.
A lot of users like to upgrade the PSU at the same time but it isn't required. It will dramatically reduce heat up times though so may be something to look into in the future.
What board is on your printer? (I'll link up the needed firmware requirements)
I've ordered the E3dv6 which comes with a 0.4 nozzle and grabbed a 0.6 nozzle also.
The motherboard I have is the default one that comes with Solidoodle 3. It's REV-E of the motherboard. Is there a model number or something I should look for?
Take a picture of the board and I can tell you.
Here's a picture.
You can follow the instructions for the Printerboard posted on the WIKI.http://www.soliwiki.com/Updating_Solidoodle_Firmware#PrinterBoard_Update_.28Flashing.29_Instructions
Start with this and let me know if you have questions.
Got my new E3D v6 extruder in. Got the firmware flashed and extruder installed and wired up. Was printing ABS just fine. Retracted the filament (heated per normal) and then started to put PLA filament in and it wouldn't extrude out. Turns out it clogged while switching. Took it apart to try to fix the clog and ended up breaking the Thermresistor when putting it back together, so ordered some extra parts and waiting on those to come in to fix it.
I think my problem might be that I wired the fan for the hot end to the Hotend power so it only turns on when the heating is on. Is there a better place to wire that up for 12v fan power?
That's a first ![]()
You can run the fan to any other 12v fan wires.
That is definitely the problem, which is why the E3D instructions say to wire it directly to 12 volts.
The heater voltage is variable, PWMed.
I did put it together without instructions which is probably the problem ![]()
Any suggestions as to where to find a replacement motherboard and power supply for the SD3? They have been out of stock for about 2 months now at Solidoodle
Rumba & Super night PSU....
Have a search this has been covered a thousand times and at least ten times in the last ten days.

Curious are there any us sellers for the rumba? all the ones I see apear to ship out of china or one dealer in denmark.
I may build a printer at some point or need to repair the SD 4 of course would prefer a USA board or at least a USA seller that I can contact and return a bad one if needed. virtually all the rumbas I see are Geetech some here advise to steer clear of Geetech.
It could be there are a hundred happy silent rumba users out there and only a couple of verbal dissatisfied geetech customers.
your sage advise is sought and respected.

I would suggest the RUMBA as well...but just a notch down is the RAMPS 1.4; there are plenty available from US shippers like MakerGeeks...

I could carry them, or the RAMBo. Where'd you guys get your RUMBAs?
I don't have one yet, but that is my next buy when I want to upgrade from the RAMPS on my Ord Bot...I like the flexibility of putting out 24V for the Heat Bed which the RAMPS cannot do without an SSR...as well as the screw terminal option on every connector.
As far as I know, RRD is the only place to get them...
Yep...just saw that...I think they were having trouble with some of their chipsets for the USB connection or some such thing. The RUMBAs were not even listed on their site as of a few weeks ago.
Try Maker Farm - based in Utah. They had some last I looked (yesterday)
They are a available again on RRD but you can also buy them from MakerFarm (US). That's where I got the last one and thus far it's been fine. I know there has been issues with the 16U2 (USB) chip and that is on Atmel not RRD. Seems as though RRD did the right thing by pulling them off their site until the issues were resolved. Of course most of this is my educated and partially informed opinion. I have been fishing around this issues since the first day RRD pulled them from their site. I will keep you all posted as I learn more.
thanks for the info will be watching
