Topic: general community of builders/tinkerers?

I (for the most part wink ) love this community and the amount of help I've received has been awesome.
However, I have this personal project not related to 3d printing/scanning involving mirrors, motors and video projection or displays controlled in a specific and unusual way to create an optical illusion. I know it can be done as there are some old articles and patents about it.
I've realized there's no general community of builders I know which maybe could help me with these questions.
Anyone know of such a place? Ben Heck's forum is the only place that comes to my mind but he's mostly into modding video game consoles and there's one forum subsection for other stuff.

PS. I also tried finding a forum about video projection, but only found communities of users who can help with replacing video projector bulbs and software/firmware stuff, but not suggest how to hack a projector hardware. Same with displays.

There were some forums like Soliforum I tried posting the question in but people don't know the answer to these specialized questions.

I suggest you check out http://madmodder.net/ The senior admin is Brass_Machine  kind of buddy of mine.Have not checked out the site in a while , but it is a general modding site that has covers a wide range of interests in tinkering modding re-purposing machining, woodworking ,electronics ,programming etc.

While  I'm not sure that's the right place to post about this project, I think I've found a new home for my other projects (DIY rock tumblers, halloween foggers, etc), thank you smile
