Topic: Da Vinci 1.1 Plus

Found some new videos on the 1.1 Plus. Here's the "first print" video.

Looks like XYZPrinting made a number of improvements over their original model. The filament loading process is interesting...

Oddly enough, the bed levelers are still the same in the video. I had thought they improved them too.

Win 8.1
Improved Da Vinci 1.0 with Firmware 1.2.5 and stock extruder
Arduino cartridge resetter and after-market ABS filament
TinkerCAD, Netfabb, Simplify3D

Re: Da Vinci 1.1 Plus

Looks like they opted for a Bowden setup.

Also, the bed leveling may be better as far as software goes. (Not just values, but details on how far to turn screws.)

Re: Da Vinci 1.1 Plus

It looks like a bowden setup but there is still an stepper in the print head... WTF?

Re: Da Vinci 1.1 Plus

From XYZ's other videos it looks like the 'Bowden' stepper is only used to load the filament, not when actually printing.

That is a perfect example of over engineering, there is absolutely no practical reason for that. Also I can almost guarentee you will not be able to turn off the on-board wifi which means no aftermarket filament and constantly updating to whichever newer crapper firmware they come out with (and possibly no opportunity to flash)

Re: Da Vinci 1.1 Plus

Honestly, as much I don't like this, it really is a decent step towards 3D printing for people who are not tinkerers. It's still a long ways away because as much as XYZ would like to believe from the video, things always go wrong and you need to understand the machine to set it going on the right path. Most of the people here on the forum are here for the hobby and the journey of 3D printing, but not everybody wants that.

That second stepper is over engineering. However, that touch screen firmware looks like it android. So, maybe reverse engineering this could be easier, with a custom android ROM and that android may be the firmware that ties into the controller.
