Topic: Couple Repetier questions

Hey guys, I currently have a 1.0 that I have already downgraded to 1.1.J and use a resetter and what not. XYZware is just constantly failing me though(especially with the complete lack of quality when supports are added), so I'm considering a move to repetier or open mod. Theres a couple things I don't understand though:

1. Why would flashing to repetier void my warranty? Ever post I've read about it (and I've read a ton) seems to think it will, but can't I just flash it back to regular firmware if I have a problem?

2. I've read about a bunch of people having troubles with this and that in the past (like August), but these posts seem to be trailing off, I would assume most of the bugs have been worked out by now? I don't print a whole lot and value a reliable print over a perfect print.

Thanks for any help!

I'm going to be flashing back to J shortly. Have you had any issues with print quality when your XYZware is working?

I'm running Simplify3d so I anticipate things will be fine quality wise as long as J is good firmware.

Print quality is alright, I have nothing to compare it to but I haven't had any problems with integrity or anything, XYZware also works all the time you just need to remember to block it in the firewall or it will flash it back as soon as you connect it (ask me how I know). It's mainly just supports that annoys the crap out of me.

The only way flashing voids a warranty is if you have it for six months or so running Repetier firmware then it has an issue that needs it to ne returned on warranty. So you flash stock firmware to it and send it in. They fire it up and see you have had six months but the usage count shows less that an hour of use. Anytime you flash it, it resets the usage counter. So they can tell if it was flashed that way and will void the warranty based on you altering the the machine.

Thats the only way they can tell if it was done.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

I feel like that can be fought very easily though if the need arises, I'm also kinda surprised nobody has figured out how to set the counter similar how you write the serial number back on. Can you think of any problems I may have going over to repetier as a novice to printing if I take the time to learn most of the settings?

Re: Couple Repetier questions

umm  you also loose your serial number when you wipe EP Rom for flashing

unless someones got a guide to dump the entire EP Rom to a file before you go and wipe it

you can always add your time back in its only hex code ...

One of the comm test when you do the official repetier flash process listed pver at voltivo shows you a command you can send through the terminal to write the serial number back to the device so that is not an issue at all.

Or you could do only the JP1/JP37 jumper reset and send the printer without a firmware, make up a story about it failing mid print and not booting up anymore. I know for a fact that that works.

The reset jumper will erase the serial as well.

The biggest issue with a return is proving where you bought. If you bought it on ebay or amazon you have no warranty. It does not matter if the seller claims they are official or not. XYZ does not recognize online stores as officisl sellers and does not honor warranties on printers from them.

I assume you mean external sellers on amazon? Because if you buy one from amazon directly you definitely have a warranty that they cannot deny.

I'm really considering repetier, I cannot find a reason why not to this point except the hours (I'm surprised nobody has worked on a code for this)
