Topic: Is this what over extruding looks like?

•Printer: Da Vinci 1.0A
•Repetier Firmware .92A
•Repetier Host 1.0.6
•Sliced with Cura
•Material: White Push Plastic ABS
•Temperatures: Extruder @ 230C, bed @ 110C

Problem: I've been adding/removing different mods trying to make PLA work with my printer, but last night I gave up trying to make the stock extruder work and removed the shroud I printed out, removed the kapton tape I had on to remove heat loss, basically reverted it back to normal. The issue you're seeing in the photo is mainly on the left and right tips of every piece I'm printing. It's like it extrudes way too much or that when it's extruded it expands in that area. I was able to print this part flawlessly, but now every single time I attempt it something goes wrong.

So far I've tried: Adding glue to the bed to help with adhesion, raising and lowering the Z home, and slowing the print down to 20mm/sec

That looks to me like too much heat, possibly combined with poor adhesion. The extruded filament is possibly not cooling down enough due to the heat irradiated by the bed and the nozzle. Try lowering your temps and using ABS slurry/juice.

It ended up being too much heat, I dropped the bed temp down to 90C, here is the resulting difference: http://imgur.com/p7ysVbC

Small objects can be really tricky to print because of this. I often even use the PLA cooling fan with ABS too, at least with the first few layers (you gotta be careful to avoid delamination and warping). Also printing multiple copies of the object placed far from each other can help to give them time to cool down.

I had a fan for a while, but I thought it was causing errors in the print (turned out to be moisture in the filament). And for these small parts, I usually print 6 at a time so each one has a chance to cool. You're absolutely correct about small parts being tricky.
