Topic: material fan e3d v6?

what fan mount do you use for the material fan on the build platform with the e3d V6,

I cant find one that looks confirmed as to work with the E3D V6.

any help would be awesome.

thank you,
Ryan M.

This will vary depending on the user's machine, hotend, carriage, etc. So we need more info.
Can you detail your specs?

Re: material fan e3d v6?

I'm working on one for the lawsy carriage. Just need to make sure this shroud has the right dimensions and will actually print... Should be done with it in a day or so (ran out of time tonight). Uses a 30mm fan.

Re: material fan e3d v6?

You are using the Lawsy carriages with the bolt on mount for the V6, right?  I have also been wanting a fan for this, I'm at the point where I want a G-code controlled nozzle fan.  It would be great if it uses the undercarriage mounting holes to get it out of the way.  I'm interested in seeing what you come up with but I might also try to whip something up for both the V6 and the Volcano.  I have several 40mm fans laying around so I might try to use those.

Re: material fan e3d v6?

I've got a little L bracket which attaches a fan to the bottom of the carriage. My plan is to get the shroud 4-5mm away from the nozzle and center it up such that the nozzle is in the middle of the 30mm shroud, and no air reaches the heater block (inefficient). I can easily adapt it to a 40mm fan as well, I think. I'm parameterizing it so it will be customizable, if I can figure out the customizer on thingiverse... I prefer a 30mm fan because it offers a wider PWM range (mine will run at 27% PWM on up, a 40mm I had wouldn't kick until 45%, and sadly slic3r does not offer a "blip" option like Simplify3D).

Re: material fan e3d v6?

If you wait a little for jagowilson to finish his fan design, it will work just fine.

Personally, I use http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:154544 which works just fine with a v6 with a Volcano. But with a v6, this will require a Volcano since the latter is longer. So v6+Volcano=v5 length

Re: material fan e3d v6?

Ya I really feel that the under carriage fan duct right near the nozzle is the way to go.  That way it cools it immediately as it exits the nozzle, helping with bridging.  Fans on the side blowing adjacent to the nozzle don't look like they would do this as well.  Thanks for the heads up that that fan would work on the volcano.

Re: material fan e3d v6?

I made one that should fit on the lawsy carriage, but it's for a bowden setup. Shouldn't be too hard to modify it for direct extrusion though. The solidwork files are included. I'll probably update it to the new e3d dual extruders when I buy one. I would recommend a radial fan, as they have very good airflow and works well with ducting. At 100% the fan can cool the nozzle enough to make it underextrude if the extrusion temperature is low, so it's powerful enough at least:

Bridging works extremely well IMHO. I've attached two images of canon lens cap I printed yesterday using PLA, without supports, bridging ~5cm easily. 3 top layers of 0.2 mm on top.

Re: material fan e3d v6?

I'm finished with what I would consider to be the first usable iteration of my GCode fan mount + shroud for the v6. I messed up the mounting holes for the bottom carriage (it's using the wrong set), but it will still fit with an M3x8mm or so. Fan is mounted on with screws from the top, which seems to be holding in place OK after several hours. The fan shroud just slips on, I may want to make it a little more snug.

If anyone tries it out, give me some feedback. Here it is, mounted:

Here are a couple prints I did with it:

Not bad, but definitely some improvement possible. At this point I'm going to move the shroud just a bit closer when I get more time; that should help.

STL files are attached. If anyone would like the ipt's (autodesk inventor files) just ask, but I'm hoping to publish them to thingiverse once I test this more rigorously. I only posted it now because I said I would smile
