Topic: Changing the extruder head
Right guys
Would you recommend any nozzles which I could change from the stock one? Preferably one which I can change the tip size on to play around with it??
Also is it hard to do??
Thanks ![]()

Well I am a E3D V6 guy myself, know them and love them. I am sure carl and some other people will be in here telling you about the Pico and what not, but I have no experience with them so all I can give you advice on is the E3D. Personally since you are from the UK I would go with them since they are local to you.... Just saying.
As far as hard to do that is a really relative question. For me it is ridiculously simple (less than a day to get the E3D running from scratch), but I am also a mechanical engineer soooo..... It's all about perspective. If you are a handy guy then I say yes its easy and go for it!
If it's that easy you should do a video for YouTube on how to do a change over. It would help a lot of us noobies. Haha
Well I'm an aerospace engineering machinist so I'm quite handy if you want to say
haha okay will have a look in to the the E3D

12v Bowden full kit with either 1.75 mm or 3 mm filament if you want
Have you looked at the thread on here: E3D on Da Vinci
Browning,
I have the STL file for the carriage (thing:594392)
From this would I have to move over to repitier on the firmware and software?
And yeah kev but it has people talking about all sorts and its confusing me so thought I would start a new thread... may help others

That is the carraige I am using. It is for sure possible to use that with stock firmware, but I would highly suggest to move to repetier. I am on .91 alpha which is super simple to install (less than 15 min)
1. If you are on firmware other than J (1.2.3 and higher) then you will need to downgrade using WCTEK downgrade zip found here:
http://www.wctek.com/shop/content/9-downloads
2. Download the .91 alpha reptier bin found here:
https://github.com/bgm370/dav10/blob/ma … inci10.bin
3. Install Xyz ware 1.0.0.23 or older and firewall it or just disconect from the web
http://voltivo.com/forum/davinci-softwa … repository
4. Now go into XYZ ware and click info ( i think) click update firmware and it will say disconnected from the web, click okay and it will bring up a "open document window" select the .91 alpha '.bin' file click okay and it should flash your printer to repetier!
Okay mate
What else would I have to do to hardware like would I need to make a new Z value or would you just adjust the bed to suit it??
Sorry about all the questions just want all the answers for reference when I get the new nozzle next week
Cheers

You should be able to just adjust the bed to account for any change in height. hardware wise just get yourself a bunch of m3 screws they are used for pretty much everything on the davinci.
Right okay so everything electronics is basically unplug the old and swap with the new?

You got it! One thing that is different I guess is that the e3d fan is 12v versus 5 so you have to route it to the red and yellow 12v wires on the board
Right okay at least I have everything which I think I need on this post now ![]()
Ive set my printer up so I can print off the SD card eventually I think my issue was is that I was running on the newest XYZ firmware on it so downgraded and it works now.

I use a small piece of electrical tape. It doesn't have it so that you can print it easier. I haven't had any trouble with the electrical tape, though some people recommend modeling up a small flag and using acetone to stick it on.

Browning,
I am ordering the new nozzle assembly tomorrow is there any chance of you posting photos of how you have your head? Just so I can get it set up quickly
Would be appreciated
Thanks
I have ordered the head and some 8mm runners for it will post photos and that to show how I do. Also ordered a Bowden motor system also from ebay was easier to buy it then print myself haha will keep you guys posted!!
I have seen something about changing a table in your software for the thermostat
But I am running XYZ firmware down graded to use filament re-setter but I don't know what it is with this table any help guys?
