Topic: HIPS

I ordered some of the following from Amazon because I liked the color;

Just received it today and the sticker on the box says ABS, but the hand written checks on the box say it is HIPS and the sticker on the vacuum bag say it is HIPS as well, so I am assuming it is HIPS.

I have a stock 1.0 and I am a little hesitant to try it out to see if it will work because my printer is printing so well right now I hate to screw it up.

Any thoughts besides returning it?

High density poly styrene/High Impact polystyrene  is a common household plastic light weight high strength. Easy to print less warping than ABS easy to glue and paint . Extuder temp 220-230 bed 50- 60.  also used as desolvable support.
I considered picking up a roll  but have not tried it.
If you are used to ABS this should print fine for you.
Like ABS may want need to exhaust fumes or use dilution ventilation.
So you may just want to give it a try

I've used HIPS before, bought some from Microcenter, RoHS brand. Works quite well using ABS settings. Couple differences: it's a noticeably brighter white than the white ABS filament I've used (XYZ cartridge) and the printed pieces are pretty tough with very little flex.

I also bought a gallon of Limonene ($35 on Amazon) and tested how long it takes to dissolve: a block print (2 solid outlines, 30% infill, roughly 2x2x1 inches) took about a day and a half to fully dissolve. I've not tried HIPS as support yet (been trying to find a good silver filament for earring and bracelets), but I fully expect that it will work well for support in complex, delicate structures that would be ruined by normal support.
