Topic: Next Solidoodle models

Just curious. Im kinda peeved with solidoodle making cheap junk currently, but Im wondering around what time of the year they announce their next models. I'm just wanting to keep up to see if they learn from their mistakes or continue to make them.

No. Unfortunately this would fall under the category of a "pipe dream". I started modding my SD2 a few months before the SD4 was announced, and saw they did not implement any upgrades/tweaks our community have clamored for. They then went even further from my personal hopes with the 3 new models (though dual extrusion is a nice surprise).

Printit Mason and Printit Horizon printers
Multiple SD2s- Bulldog XL, E3D v5/v6/Lite6, Volcano, Hobb Goblin, Titan, .9 motor, Lawsy carriages, direct Y drive, fishing line...the list goes on
Filawinder and Filastruder #1870.....worth every penny!

Its the iphone of printers...3 steps behind competition and new models add what the previous ones should have had from the get go...and they still act like a kickstarter company, thats the biggest problem. Offer shit....but get it to me in a timely fashion.

"All your base are belong to us." SD4 with a RUMBA, supernight PS, 40mm fan on X motor, lawsey carriages with new better tolerance rods, flanged rear bearings, new NEMA 17 with leadscrew on Z-Axis, and e3d v6 with MK5.

Re: Next Solidoodle models

In that case I'll never buy another solidookie. I may actually just build my own from now on since I'm doing the frames anyway. I'll just take their design and out engineer the (which isn't hard to do). There's nothing solid about a solidookie. Everyone of their printers just use linear motion bearings, e3d hotends, higher grade of steel rods, aluminum bed holders, well nuts on the z axis and a few more fans. But they always take the cheap way out.

Guess I'm just kinda fed up with them actin like amateurs

Re: Next Solidoodle models

My solidoodle (and this forum) has taught me so much about 3d printers, the second one will be amazing. smile
If it worked out of the box I would be none the wiser though...

SD3. Mk2b + glass, heated enclosure, GT2 belts, direct drive y shaft, linear bearings, bowden-feed E3D v5 w/ 0.9° stepper
Smoothieboard via Octoprint on RPi

+1

I have my complaints with SD as many do, but the upside is that it can be easily modified/maintained compared to other printers, which is perfect for aspiring makers.
And +1,000 to the forum comment. MB closed their forums, reddit can be a pain to navigate, and no other site is filled with as much knowledge, inspiration, and "community vibe" rolled into one as SF. Which was another selling point for my first printer (SD)

Hahha indeed there is some value in having to work basically everything out for yourself. Yay solidoodle for setting us up for... better printers.

This is a crowd funding thing that I'm running: http://www.gofundme.com/bvi140 It's for pretty selfish reasons tongue

The community is priceless. You guys are clutch and crucial. They do provide a printer base to work off. I just would like to see them do a better job is all

Re: Next Solidoodle models

+100 on all the above!

My SD2 had it's upsets out of the box, but ran fairly well overall after that.  When I built my Ord Bot, that was the real learning experience.  Had I not done that and not had all of the incredible help from this Forum I would in fact be none the wiser...very glad the way it's all working out...and I'm still learning!!

And, yes, the SD2 is now just a backup machine...

SD2 - Stock - Enclosure - Heated Bed - Glass Plate - Auto Fire Extinguisher
Ord Bot Hadron - RAMPS 1.4 - Bulldog XL - E3D v6 - 10" x 10" PCB Heated Build w/SSR - Glass Plate
Thanks for All of Your Help!
