Topic: Bad PC board? not sure

I have been using reptierhost and repetier firmware on my da vinci 1.0 for almost a year now.  Today my PC does not show any com ports? When I turn on the davinci nothing happens on the pc showing unknow devise or anything in the device manager. (windows 8.1)
The Davinci took four times turing off and on before the lights and LCD came on today?  Not sure  whats up with it?

Sounds like it could be a power supply issue. If the board isn't getting power, then you're never going to detect it.

Well the lights and  lcd light up.  still a power problem?

Re: Bad PC board? not sure

Ah, I thought you said it was powering inconsistently, the lcd and lights not always coming up. Still, you might want to check the voltage off the supply. Could be enough for the lights but not enough for board logic.

I really don't have experience with the davinci, so I'm using general experience here. You also might want to try using a different USB cable, just to rule that out.

You are missing 12 volts. The lights and LCD run on 5 volts but the board needs 12 to come up. Did you use the brass brush while the hot end heater was on?

Re: Bad PC board? not sure

HI The motors will home and move by using the LCD so I think power is there ok. Just no USB comunication to my PC?
If the PC board is bad can I replace it with a ramps or would I be better off just selling the machine for parts and I keep the stepper motors and build another printer?  thoughts?

Depends on your confidence in reverse engineering their wiring. In addition to the RAMPS you will need an LCD with 5 foot cables, and 3 optical or mechanical endstops. It will require cutting the plastic for each of the endstop mounts and cutting a hole in the back cover for a fan in addition to figuring out all the wiring. I have done it and it works well. I intend to do a write  up but am currently side tracked on my Delta rebuild.

Ok thanks. Kind of a bummer, I just got the new bed glass/heater assembly yesterday from a guy here on the forums that sells them. It look very nicely made.

Re: Bad PC board? not sure

If it turns out to be a bad PC board I may just sell it for parts and keep the steppers and build another smartone 200
