I'd like to buy a SD 4 printhead assembly (http://www.solidoodle.com/parts/parts-S … d4-hot-end), because my printhead doesn't work, and Solidoodle webshop is out of stock. Need it ASAP.

In case I upgrade to an E3D, is there any chance that the hot end doesn't work well with my SD 4?

the E3D v6 will work just fine on your SD4 - I have one and love it! you will need to make changes to the firmware, and may need to adjust the vref for the extruder motor once installed, tho.
also recently found out that with some minor modifications to the top of the E3D, it will mount in the stock aluminum mounting block of the SD4, so no need to print a mount for it.

Thanks! I read some threads about it. What do you mean my adjusting the vref for the extruder motor?

there is a small trim pot on the board for each axis that controls voltage to the motor - it may need to be adjusted once you get an E3D installed. search the forums, there is a lot of info about it.

The biggest task is to flash new firmware onto your Printrboard. It's not that hard, and step-by-step instructions are on this forum.
I just installed an E3Dv6 on my SD4 last week, and wish I had done it sooner. I've been printing nylon hardware for my Alfa Romeo like crazy this past week!

i have an extra solidoodle 4 hot end that i used before i replaced it with an e3d v6. let me know if you are still looking.
