Topic: Chattering on x- axis

I originally listed this under an 1.1.x upgrade for firmware thinking that might be the issue...
I am a school teacher with 3 XYZ printers. Two of the run fine. I'm using 1.1.34.7 software. This particular printer is running 1.0.1 firmware.
My print head is having a hard time following the program file. With the power off, the head assembly runs smoothly on the rails, and the motor are not slipping, and the belt is not loose or worn.
After one pass on the platform it starts to chatter and  the print head wanders off into different directions that what the files calls for.  Someone suggested that it could be the SD card?

My guess would be a loose connection on the x axis end stop. Check the three pin harness on the right end of the X axis all three wires are the same color.

Thanks for the reply...

I just checked all connections and they seem fine. I would think the end stop would be necessary mainly for starting and ending, and not during a print cycle. Am I missing something?

I too experience that.

I may say that my belt have been adjusted well and made sure it is not too tight... but noooo
and still making that noise and skipping.

The remedy...
Keep adjusting the belts till you dont get that noise and skip, especially the Z axis. It took me almost 2 weeks to finally learn the trick of my machine.

And sometimes after 20 prints, noise comes back again for me and again I adjust the belt again and again till I get
it back the way I wanted.

If the wire on the endstop is loose and opens while the machine is printing, it will see that as the endstop being hit and it will mark that position as home for that axis till you reset the machine. So all movements for that axis will be made using the new home as the origin. If it does it repeatedly it can cause shaking and other strange behavior. As long as the rod is straight and lightly lubricated the only two things left are a bad endstop/harness or bad motor/harness. Or motor stepper driver. If the motor current is set too high or too low on that stepper it can cause such behavior.

Thanks for your help. I did find t he problem. There was a break/short in the wiring harness. For now, I spliced in some heavier gage wire (that's all I had on hand). XYZprinting will send me a replacement harness when available.

I currently have the same issue, where was the break? On the x-axis carrier (where the stepper for the x-axis is)?

The break was in the loom of wires to the right of the x-axis stepper. I found it accidentally as I was making the printer print to find the origin of the issue. I discovered that when I pushed up on the wires the chattering would go away and the print head would follow it's normal path. And when I let go, it started all over again.

It's a new safety feature. You have to be there observing the printer at all times (and holding the wires) or it doesn't work.
