My Duo has a couple of issues. One, the right extruder will heat up to 230 and then drop once the print starts. Obviously I kill the print, so I don't know if it eventually stops. I've let it drop as low as 180C before canceling. That's the biggest issue. The other is that the left extruder also heats to my desired temp and then it drops and stays at 215. Is it possible this is a power issue?

What software are you using and how are you setting your temp since you said desired?

Simplify3D. The right extruder had been heating to 230+. It just stopped this evening.

Check the harness that connects the heater to the machine.. They go bad on the other version of Da Vinci. If it is not the harness then it could be a bad cartridge in the heat block. They are replaceable but require you to tear the head down and splice the new one into the harness. They are just standard 12 volt 40 watt ceramic heaters.

Ok, after checking the cables, apparently something was loose. Now it stays heated. I have noticed, however, that if I set my temp any higher than 230 it heats to about 220 then starts dropping. Is there a firmware limitation?

Yes, 230 is the max the stock firmware supports. They being XYZ claims higher will damage the head.

I think the way their head is designed with poor cooling it is more of a hazard for the motor. It might be what attributed to my extruder motor failing as I was running at 250 for a while trying to get some bad filament to print. I dont use stock firmware or controller though. Your limit cannot be removed or changed unless you made the reflash to Repetier.

Thanks for the info. It sounds like figuring out how to flash Repetier is in my future. Along with mounting some fans and heatsinks.
