I changed it in the firmware and reflashed. Didn't know you could change it with M853. Ill give it a shot and let you know.
how do i update the firmware? possible to do that whitout extra hardware? the code is not working but its on there site....
I have read that issuing the command "M853 P4" will increase the probe points to 16 (4x4). "M853 P3" will set it back to 3x3. Haven't tried it yet though.
I changed mine, but like Dylantep I had to do it by flashing the firmware. I had to buy an AVR programmer to do that.
Confirmed, "M853 P4" command increased probe points to 16 without having to flash firmware. Don't forget the M500 to store the change.

wow ok i need to check this..
but when i write m853 i get no info in the command line
do you have the upgraded press or the early version ?
I have an upgraded press. Perhaps it is not a feature in the earlier versions. When I run just the M853 command it returns the current value, in my case "M853 P4"
ah okey shit happens i guess .. i hope i can get hands on the updated firmware and update it somehow its 2015 and cant do easy firmware update ... everything els is push a button ..
if someone here can and have done reflashing please respond on "how to do it"
no other way to update whitout standalone programer?
I never could get my old SD3 to upgrade by flashing the firmware, just too complicated and never worked, so I just sprung for a new motherboard. Now I have to look forward to the same hassle. My press will not print well on the first two layers, no matter what I do. I figure the bed is so warped and uneven that the 9 probe points are not enough to get a flat print. I would love to have 16 points so I could actually use my machine as intended. There must be an easier way to make it happen Solidoodle. I've looked at your directions to do so, and we have to cut and paste...really, too much confusion to follow, I know I will just screw up the firmware already installed. Need help!

Is it possible that your z-offset is wrong?

I guess anything is possible, but I've tried all settings and print just plows through on second layer. My conclusion is that the bed is warped so bad it will not print in certain areas. Just about to give up on this machine.

What did SD support say? They're sometimes maddenly slow and repetitive, but they're persistent and by now they've seen a lot of different troubles, so they may recognize the issue.

Yeah, I knew I could probably do that, but the issue is their very slow response. After waiting almost 6 months for the Press, I am afraid to send the motherboard in, cause I might die before it gets returned...
confirming i updated to latest firmware 03242015 whit bootloaderhid and now it works to set 16 points and back .
