Topic: Da Vinci Jr

So I'm new to 3d printing, I bought the jr and I'm already having issues and I haven't even hooked it up yet.  I'm trying to register my printer and no matter if I enter the hyphens or not, it keeps telling me that my serial number is invalid.  It's also asking for a Certificate file but I have no idea where I get that from.

The next issue is my filament is labeled as ABS.. see attachment.. does others have this same writing?

Re: Da Vinci Jr

Sounds very familiar. So far out of about 8 new junior owners only one has claimed to be printing out of the box with no issues. The others have had damage, warped beds, and the dreaded clicking which indicates a jam. One other poster had a spool marked abs and if it is abs it would be the source of the jams. You could take a piece outside and burn it. If it smells like burning plastic it is ABS. It it smells like burning sugar it is PLA. If it is ABS it will not work in a junior.

Re: Da Vinci Jr

Maybe I'm best to just return the damn thing to newegg, even though I'm pretty sure I have to pay shipping and a restocking fee.. damn..

On amazon someone registered theirs through the xyz app, I don't see that as an option. I can log in with my xyz account but it doesn't go beyond that.. Am I missing something?

Cant really help you there, I have a 1.0 that has long since been flashed and I no longer use anything to do with XYZ. Did not jump on the junior train since it only does PLA and I need ABS as an option. Then I also started seeing all the junior issue threads appear here. Just scroll through the first few pages of the Da Vinci section.

Re: Da Vinci Jr

So just an update.. I returned the printer, didn't have to pay for shipping and will get all of my money back.. I was told however that the hand written 'ABS' referred to the spool itself being ABS, not the filament.. I never ripped it open to confirm but I'm done with it nonetheless.  I've ended up buying a folger tech i3 prusa 2020 kit and will basically build my first 3d printer from a box of parts.. it will be interesting, fun and I'm sure at times frustrating.. but i'm looking forward to finally having a 3d printer to call my own.

Re: Da Vinci Jr

Have exactly the same writing on a new new roll of black filament. Have been having some jamming issues with this filament but currently working on the assumption that it had sucked up some water from the damp room because it did not smell of burning plastic and the first few prints with this filament were fine.

I've read that you can put filament into the oven at a low temp to bake out the moisture.  Can't say that I've tried that yet though.  I wonder if it would some how mess with the rfid chip.

Well, you can take the RFID chip out of the center of the spool. It's holder is only held in with a small screw and you have to take the holder out to change reels. I've also heard you can put in a low oven but it seems a bit drastic.

Re: Da Vinci Jr

My oven at home is electric and will set as low as 160c. I tried baking some abs for 4 hours and the filament was fine but the spool was so warped I could not use it. I will someday have to unwind that filament to another spool.
