Topic: Timberfill by Fillamentum

Anyone tried this stiff with a Da Vinci ?
Looks amazing, the manufacturer claims it's 100% wood !

Well it can't be 100%, there has to be a binder of some kind either PLA or ABS or similar.

If I can get my Da Vinci running to finish the parts I need to rebuild my delta I plan to try out stuff like this.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!
Anycubic 4MAX best $225 ever invested.
Voxelabs Proxima SLA. 6 inch 2k Mono LCD.
Anycubic Predator, massive Delta machine. 450 x 370 print envelope.

Re: Timberfill by Fillamentum

That's what you would think. Woodfill is 70% PLA, 30% wood.
There's a 10 metre sample available. I might try that to see if the Da Vinci can print it.
I've got my 1.0 modded to print great with Woodfill so it might just work with Timberfill too.

Re: Timberfill by Fillamentum

At least the site does say 100% natural and is based on wood. There must be something to bind it together, although maybe the percentage is so low that it can be discounted.

Re: Timberfill by Fillamentum

The 10 metre sample of Timberfill (light wood tone) came in the post yesterday.
It printed great first time although bearing in mind I'm using extra heatsinks to cool the extruder. Not sure if it would work on a stock extruder ??
Comparing it to Colorfabb Woodfill, the Timberfill is quite a bit lighter in colour.
It seems to print better at a wider range of temps than Woodfill. The first print I tried was at 215°C which I use for Woodfill. That resulted in some over-extrusion in detailed parts of the print. It also stuck to the bed like a limpet at that temperature.
I tried it at the recommended 185°C and the finish was much better. In fact, better than Woodfill.
It comes in 4 different colours too which could be useful. I've ordered a sample of Rosewood and Cinnamon to try before I decide what colour of spool to buy.

Re: Timberfill by Fillamentum

I just ordered 1kg of the gizmo dork wood. I Think it is pine based. It has the dark layers like laywoo d3. I think the timberfill must have less wood in it since there aren't any visible dark layers or your temperature isn't varying.

Re: Timberfill by Fillamentum

I printed at the same temp for each layer but I did notice that the print at 215C was slightly darker than the one at 185C so I think a similar effect could be achieved if you wanted it.
Personally, I prefer the look of the same colour all the way through.
Also, the Timberfill seems to produce much cleaner prints at lower temps.

Re: Timberfill by Fillamentum

Here's a couple of prints with Timberwood in Rosewood and Cinnamon (the Rosewood is the darker one).
Got to say, I'm really impressed with this stuff, it's prints beautifully !

Re: Timberfill by Fillamentum

Thought I'd try the Velociraptor claw on Thingiverse done with Timberfill.
Printed at 0.2mm and sanded with a dremel and fine grit paper.

Re: Timberfill by Fillamentum

Yeah, it really does have a look of wood about it.  I'm liking this stuff a lot !
Looks like it's been hand carved after sanding.
Brilliant to print with too.
