Topic: What causes 'stringing'?

The new E3D Lite works GREAT!!  I have kept my settings at 195/75 for PLA.  Finally getting some good prints - EXCEPT - I get very fine stringing between items, or spaces.  Not a major problem as a wave of a lit match takes care of them.  All other settings remain as they were for the E3D V6.  Extruder stepper was calibrated, unless it changes from the V6 to the Lite.

Suggestions??

Thanx

Re: What causes 'stringing'?

You can try bumping up your retraction setting a bit...

SD2 - Stock - Enclosure - Heated Bed - Glass Plate - Auto Fire Extinguisher
Ord Bot Hadron - RAMPS 1.4 - Bulldog XL - E3D v6 - 10" x 10" PCB Heated Build w/SSR - Glass Plate

I'll give that a shot.

Re: What causes 'stringing'?

Some PLAs string more than others. It seems like it's color dependent more than anything, but I've only tried a few different colors. Black seems to string the least. As far as setting, like ironman said, retraction can help. I would enable wiping too if you aren't already.

What color/brand are you using?

Re: What causes 'stringing'?

If black strings the least, then I'm in for a lot more....  That is what I'm using now.  I have limited it somewhat by dropping the feedrate to 96/100.  The brand is whatever I bought off EBay.

Regardless of the minor stringing, the prints I'm now getting with this E3D Lite are about 1000 times better than I ever got with the stock, or E3D V6 extruders.  I must have stumbled onto the correct combination of calibration and Lawsy's carriages.

I'm in the process of trying to print the 'Notre-Dame de Reims' cathedral by Marco Bergman - off Thingiverse.  If I can figure out how to post a pic or 2 just to show the resolution & quality this Lite version puts out.  After 18 months, I am finally somewhat pleased with the SD.  A little more fine tuning.....
I have cleaned most of the fine stringing with a match.
