Topic: Simplify3d question

I'm on the verge of shelling out for S3D and just need to confirm something before parting with $149 (or £97 here in the UK).
It's my understanding that it's possible to change print settings for each layer.
Can someone confirm this and in particular, if it's possible to change the amount of infill at various stages of the print.

Brilliant, thanks for that.
I can see that feature coming in very useful !

Re: Simplify3d question

Your welcome. It took me a while before I got S3d but it was the best purchase I have made. There is a learning curve to it, but now S3d is all I use.

Re: Simplify3d question

I've been using Cura mostly till now which is pretty good but it doesn't allow you to send a print direct to the Da Vinci and you still need to use xyzware.
S3D looks like a good all-in-one solution with a few more handy features and from what I hear, gives better quality prints too.

Re: Simplify3d question

Sure wish they had a demo...

It is a pain to have to use slic3r + xyzwaremod, but it is definitely cheaper.  Just not convinced it makes $150 of difference..?

I've been struggling with that for a while too.
But I think when you consider the faster slicing, direct control of the printer, ability to send gcode straight to the printer, better print quality plus the extra features such as manual support editing and individual layer settings, all in one program, it just about justifies the cost.
I should state that I don't work for Simplify3d and have no affiliation with the company, in light of the glittering review I just gave them. big_smile

Re: Simplify3d question

If anyone wants a demo, send me your STL.  I'll slice it with S3D and send you back the Gcode.  Then you can load the Gcode with your makexyz ware.

I  thought the same thing till I got it and started to use it.

Re: Simplify3d question

Will this software work with the Junior? If so is it possible to upload the file to an SD card for printing on the Junior?

You would have to contact the S3D devs and ask them. Probably just needs an update depending on how bad XYZ locked the junior down. It just too new for any of us to say right now.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

Re: Simplify3d question

I was afraid you might say that. I did contact them almost two weeks ago but never received a reply.

Your best bet for an answer would be to go to their forum and post the question.

Re: Simplify3d question

Thanks I will do that. One question how do people use other slicing software and then run the file through XYZ software for printing? Wouldn't the XYZ software try to reslice the object and screw it up?

Re: Simplify3d question

I use Cura and load the gcode into the modded version of xyzware to convert it to xyz's format.
Xyzware doesn't try to slice the file as it's already sliced of course, as with any gcode file you load into it.
Again, not sure if this will work with the junior ??
