Topic: Prints bubbling?
I finally got my da Vinci 1.0 to work again. I did a few test prints and it seemed to work just fine, but whenever I print larger objects the print seems to bubble, any ideas?
Thanks,
Mark Lynch

Your filament has set around in the open and absorbed too much moisture. That moisture is turning to steam as it heats and causing the bubbles. You could try storing the filament in an air tight container with rice or other dissicant.
In the future never open filament till you want to use it, and store open filament in an air tight container with something to absorb moisture just in case.
You could also be printing too hot but you would know by the smell
I just open the filament today, and it is stored in a dry box. Whenever I print the first layer cracks start forming in the center of the print, and those areas start to lift off the print bed.

Do you mean the layers are seperating?
A picture would help as well as setttingd like temp on extruder and bed. Thr speeds your printing at and so fourth. Its alwsys good to give as much info as possible when looking for help with problems and ad the old saying goes a picture is worth a thousand words.
My first layer is always chunky. This happens to me when the speed is set lower. I think my extrusion rate may be too much. Either that or I have a moisture problem as well. Sometimes you see these small tiny chunks that come out of the extruder. Temp change doesn't really help this.
I would agree with Carl. I had the moisture problem myself with a roll of 3rd party ABS.
My prints were a mess, looked like someone had taken a cheese grater to them.
I put the ABS in an airing cupboard overnight and it printed fine after that.
I now store all my filament in these .... http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:457359
I made a dry box a while back, and I keep all of my filament in it, so it will stay dry. I will upload a picture of what it happening if I can ever get one to load.

My first layer doesn't look like that. Its really messy though.
Hmm, that's not what I thought you meant. Not the same issue I had.
I'm wondering if it might be temperature related. Black can be tricky to print at the best of times, this stuff maybe needs a lower extruder temp.
What extruder temp are you using ?
I'm using the normal ABS print temperature that the da Vinci uses which is about 215 to 220°C
And if I use the lower pla temp I get extruder jams
I will post a pic but I think my first layer problems are from too much oozing.
Try using cat litter (only crystallized) it works wonders for drying out filament. I've had xyz filament come with bubbles in the filament. It could also be a bad batch
I found that after switching slicers I had forgot to set the retraction rate in cura, I reduced it and eliminated what I would have described as a snapping/popping sound during extrusion, I too originally thought moisture but like you the filament was only open for a day or so, might be something to check.
