Topic: Flexible filament cartridges for the DaVinci from XYZ for the 1.0A

Wondering if anyone has had luck with flexible filaments with aftermarket 1.0A.  XYZ has a video that they have cartridges now with flexible filament for the 1.0a https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15Q1OQ8Rku0.  I have just started with my first PLA roll with what seems to be success after some initial fails.  Wondering if anyone has tried the new XYZ flexible filament yet or if there is a flexible that generally seems to work with a 1.0A.  I have not seen the flexible cartridges yet available in the US.  If so can anyone ID what the settings are on the chip for speed and temps too if they get one that would be great.

Just so you know, XYZ uses a custom formulation for their filaments. They do this so it is harder to use other brand filaments. A stock Da Vinci of any flavor will not reach the temps needed for typical other brand filaments. The max temp limit in the firmware is 230. If you go over that even by an overshoot the heater circuit will shut down.

So even if you do get the settings fro a cartridge they will do you no good for other brands. They will be much lower than what other brands require.


I also don't recall speed being on the chip. All the chip contains is temp and amount and some other DRM data they use. The speed is controlled by the quality mode you choose in the software.

Carl, maybe its the repetier that I am using but I am running temperatures of 240 for the PLA that I run based on recommendations I found.  Any lower and it plugs.  Will that head not handle it on the 1.0A?

I did say stock firmware had yhe 230 limit. If you have Repetier installed then your high limit can be anything. Just keep in mind this high limit is for safety, not your printing convenience.

I have read on a few other forums that people claim that the head can be damaged by temps over 235. I doubt that as there is nothing in the thermal assembly but the heater, the feed throat, the heater and thermistor. As long as the thermistor cand handle it then any temp up to 240 should be fine. There is nothing that should need more than 240. If you are needing to run that high then I would get a contact thermometer and verify your temps.

When you switched to Repetier did you change the thermistor on the Configuration.h tab to type 5? I adke becuase with even the cheapest nasty filament I haver ever used I have never had to use higher than 235.

Even polycarbonate is supposed to print at 235 and that is the stuff dafety7glasses and bullet proof glass is made of.

I pulled out my thermal imaging camera to see what it looks like and although its moving (im mid print), its catching temps that appear to be in the 220C average range on the outside of the head as peak temps.  Where is the configuration.h tab and what should it be on?  Those temps would seem to make more sense since most that commented on the hatchbox glow in the dark PLA semed to like that temp range.

You would need to open your firmware in Adruino and look for the tab there. In it you will find the temp settings. I trust you used the complete version of the firmware and the bin file method updated through the stock software?.

Honestly I dont remember.    I think it is firmware .92, most recent one from github.  Once I saw that the 1.0A was changed to supported I installed.  Just followed a step by step I found to install it.

Looked it up on the file:  #define EXT0_TEMPSENSOR_TYPE 5

I asked because if you went the .bin file method then you cant make firmware adjustments. If you dowloaded the zip from github, unpacked it then opened Repetier.ino in Adruino, then you can make edits. Just open it in Adruino, make the changes, the click the arrow at the top to send it to the printer. Once you confirm it works you can click save in sdtuino to commit the changes to your soft copy.
