You'd probably pay a premium on a used printer instead of less because of the lead time

haha i was thinking about that.i found solidoodle because i was looking in the <700 range,anddont want to build a reprap.
(the prints are so ugly!OMG.)
plus,once i read the reviews and seen some prints,they looked great.

Yes, unfortunately the lead time cannot be helped much at this time.
