Topic: Can anyone come and look at my print and tell me how to fix it, thanks

Hi, my bed is perfectly calibrated and every time I print in Simplify3D and in Repetier Host this keeps happening. I am also using white hatchbox abs. Thanks

What is your top layer thickness/count set for and what speed or you printing at for top layer and solid infill?  Also what temp are you printing at?

Printing since 2009 and still love it!
Anycubic 4MAX best $225 ever invested.
Voxelabs Proxima SLA. 6 inch 2k Mono LCD.
Anycubic Predator, massive Delta machine. 450 x 370 print envelope.

I don't use Repetier and can't comment on that.  White is often touchy and touchiness may/will depend on maker...

Consider posting the parameters you use(d):
Layer numbers Top and Bottom
Shell numbers
Infill %
Temp of bed
Temp of nozzle
Print speed
Your file (stl)

Here's a good link that may help now or in the future

also what is the item being printed? file may have errors too.

Solidoodle 2 with Deluxe kit cover & glass bed with heater. and 2nd board SD2 used not 3rd and alum platform not installed yet still wood. also need cooling fan installed to board. use Repetier Host couple vers. Slic3r also have all free ware STL programs

its a ninja star stand and it doesn't have any problems, I printed on before at my school's 3D printer

I looked at the setup file and note there are different Temps, global is 220, and another temp is 230 (and 200).  230 is way too hot for XYZ brand filament and perhaps Hatchbox white.  XYZ filament should be set not more than 220.

I was finally able to download the file and will look at it soon...

Here is the filament http://www.amazon.com/HATCHBOX-1-75mm-3 … 6M6NTBRYNX

It says *Recommended Extrusion/Nozzle Temperature 210°C - 240°C (410°F - 464°F), Use With Heated Build Platform Is Recommended*

Re: Can anyone come and look at my print and tell me how to fix it, thanks

A bit long winded but, here it goes...

I printed your part two times (printed enough of them to get past the surface in question) - photo attached.  I’ll get to the problem you’re having but, first:

One of the bed temps in your file shows 100, another at 90.
In the first print I used a bed temp of 90 for first 10 layers.  It did not print well in the same area yours didn’t do well.  The number of layers at that surface is about 10 layers high (at H=0.2).  That layer/bed temp is too hot.

Your problem is two-fold:
1 - You’re printing at a low infill density - that means the layers on top have nothing underneath to rest on so, the hot plastic just droops down into the sparse infill space and/or, as in your print, they string up into balls.
2 - Having a hot temp at the topmost layer of infill further compounds the problem.  Look at #1 in photos.

I typically use 90 for the first 3 layers and 80 for the others.  I printed the part again at 90/80 with infill at 30%.  30% is decent enough to demonstrate the difference… #2 in the photo.

Using Simplify3D, these are the parameters I used:
H=0.2
Layer Top = 2
Layer Btm = 2
Shells = 2
Infill = 30%
T = 220
Tbed = 90 for layers 1 thru 3
Tbed = 80 all other layers
Print speed = 2600
Rapid speed = 5000
xyz brand ABS

Suggestion(s): Increase infill, Decrease bed temp for layers of concern, Set infill parameters for random position (Simplify can do this), Change orientation to sideways  or upside-down and use supports...

Beyond that, since don’t use Repetier, I’m not able to assist with other areas - hopefully others can help you…

Lastly, the various brands of filament list a range of temps but, it’s important to develop your own process parameters (including Temp’s) as machines are different and, as you can see from other posts, not all XYZ printers are equal…

Thanks, upping the infill to 50% fixed the problem for me big_smile
