I have an issue with xyz software when i import an stl file it dosent show the item in the screen box it only comes up when i ask it to print the file so no way to scale or place the item in the box any ideas as to why this is happening.

That is caused by an error in the model. It may not affect the print as far as you can tell. But the software does not know how to render the defect so it displays nothing.
Run the model through a repair service like netfabb. It is free but does require a Microsoft account. It should the display correctly.

I will get a copy and give it a try this was driving me nuts and that's a short trip i guess the free version is the basic.

Netfabb is a cloud service. You send them the STL, they repair it then supply you a link to download it still as an STL file.

Yes it will if i`m not mistaken I think it will have new in front of whatever the of your file is.

They actually add "Fixed" to the file name.

Thanks guys for the info on netfab i saw the tutorial on utube and figured out how to use the program to repair a file but i am still not seeing the part in the box so it must be something else wonder if it's XP or a video card issue.

one other thing i forgot to ask how do i tell what version machine i have i see the software version and firmware version is 1.01 is this an older version or newer how do i tell also how far should i upgarde the firm ware to.

It's a graphics card issue. Your card needs to support Open GL 2.1.
I get this with an old netbook which doesn't support 2.1, my Win 7 laptop is fine.
From the manual ....
"Note: Stardard VGA driver on operating system, or a graphics card doesn't support OpenGL 2.1, may cause unknown error in XYZware."
So then i need a graphics card correct, because i have installed the latest driver i could find.

You need to check if the graphics card supports OpenGL 2.1.
If not, then yes, you'll need a new card.

Just to note, you might want to consider Simplfy3D instead of the stock software. Yes it is 140 bucks but then a new graphics card will be atleast 75 bucks and if you are using a laptop then replacing the graphics card is not an option. Only very highend gaming laptops have discreet video cards that can be replaced.
On Mac's, openGL is specific to the machine production date and system update. Here's the link for Mac's

You might find your graphics card is update-able.
When I first installed xyzware on SnowLeopard, graphics were crude. I updated to Yosemite and, wow! What a difference. I'm sure Windows will be about the same... I deleted xyzware on both my Mac's and Window's machines and just use Simplify3D.
Netfabb is both a Service and a stand-alone free app. You can download it from their site (it's called Netfabb Basic) http://www.netfabb.com/downloadcenter.php?basic=1 . That's what I use - it's much faster than repairing in Simplify (and does a better job).
You guys have taken the proverbial thoughts right out of my head I was thinking the same thing would simplify 3d be a better way to go rather then spend the money on a new graphics card that’s if I don’t run into the same problem?.
Some info on what I am trying to do I have a stand alone computer that I use for all my CNC machines my shop is limited in space wow is it getting tight in here anyway I don’t want to have yet another computer in here so what I intended to do was run the xyz software from that computer it’s running XP 4 gig of ram.
Would Simplify give me more options then xyz as far as the xyz cartridge thing go, or will I need a cartridge resetter as well?

You probably have 2.0 you would need to google to see if there is a way to confirm your version.
XYZ requires 2.1 which is a higher version than what S3D requires.
I use the Mac version but Windows version may be similar - in the Preferences Visualization panel, there's an option to run graphic in "Legacy" mode - perhaps that would take care of the problem.
When i start xyz the dialog box says i have 1.1 and 2.1 opngl i have tried to upgrade it nothing on updating opengl i have installed the latest driver from the ATI web site it still came up with the same fault, i have not idea from Galaxy 99 but i will go have a look.
All i can say is thanks very much for your time and input on the problem
i got it finaly it was the web site ATI had 2 setting's side by side long story i guess but i fianly figured it out and got teh software going correctly thanks a million to guys for the help.
