Topic: ABS Fumes Causing Throat Swelling

Hey guys. I'm operating my Solidoodle Press in my bedroom with an air filter. In the recent 2 weeks I noticed a swelling in the middle of my throat. I'm wondering if this is an effect of too much ABS fumes or if it's spring time allergies?

My eyes feel like they got sand in them. I'm Taking Zyrtec to see if it will reduce the swelling in my throat. My Spring time allergies got worse after my Deployment to Afghanistan 2 years ago, but I want to make sure it's not the ABS causing the symptoms.

Unlikely but some ventilation wouldn't be a bad idea.

I run a printer with ventilation and ABS in my apartment all the time. Never notice any ill effects.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

I run my SD2 in very small non-ventilated area and I have allergies.  Never had a problem with the ABS fumes, actually like the smell of it (yeah I ate paint chips when I was younger ).

I would put it down to allergies this time of year.  Of course you could always not print for a week sad and see what happens

Hello,

I have found that I am quite sensitive to the fumes of ABS, too. I get a sore throat, only on the days when using the printer. I also have spring allergies, and was wondering if the allergies are making the sensitivity worse, or if I might be somehow reacting to the ABS itself.

Too soon to tell, but similar symptoms.

RoVa3D with five nozzles (first nozzle down, four to go)
Slic3r and Pronterface
Filastruder and Filawinder - soon enough
Current hurdles - humidity, offsets

It's quite common for allergies of one type to increase sensitivity to other stimuli. If you're dealing with spring allergies, it could make you particularly susceptible to the ABS fumes. That said, I have allergies and asthma but never really had a problem with abs sensitivity.
