Topic: Error 14 overheat plus a black wire hanging down

New guy here to both 3d printing and this forum.  Bought a Davinci 1.0 last week.  Been learning the do's and dont's but today had a print interrupted by error 14 and found a black wire hanging down by the nozzle. It is connected on one end up at the top of the print head a few inches away and nothing on the end dangling down.  Also found a piece of translucent white white laying on the bed.

Can someone please help?  XYZ's support is very slow moving and clunky to say the best.

Your thermistor broke. It is in hole on the top of the brass heat block. There are two black wires that go to it. Those the become the translucent insulation you found. Tha insulation covers the very fine exposed leads of the thermistor. You will need a new one or have XYZ replace the head under warranty.

Is there a way to fix it until XYZ gets replacements to me?

OMG In talking with XYZ they are stating that they will NOT honor the warranty because I did not purchase the printer from Best Buy or one of the other three authorized dealers. Needless to say I am challenging them aggressively!

I was not aware you bought on Ebay. Yep this is an issue many have gone through. They will not honor a warranty on a machine that was bought from a place other than the three authorized. You can fight all you want, but they are in Taiwan and you are where ever. Unfortunately your countries law can't touch them so none of us really have any legal recourse and they don't seem to want to bend and make a customer happy. Once they get the initial sale that is all they care about.

Your better off just biting the bullet and buying a replacement head from them for 95 bucks.

If you are a little handy you can change the thermistor yourself

Da Vinci  AiO with firmware 1.1.1 using xyzscan 1.1.18
E3Dv6 hotend with custom carriage with Borosilicate glass bed
123D Design and Simplify3D, Replaced PS with a Solidgear Flex320
Zerokart resetter,  Installed a Extruder Controller for higher temps

Is there a good reference website or video on how to fix it? Not very familiar with thermistors.

The hardest part is taking the extruder apart and the thermistor just sits in the hole  and covered with RTV silicone.

Your main problem you have is that you have filament loaded. You cant take the extruder apart while it is loaded. Of course now you can't heat either. So your sort of in a bind. You need to some how heat the brass block hot enough you can get the filament unloaded. If you have or can borrow a hot air gun that might work. Just be carful of the airflow and try to svoid the plastics.
