Topic: 1.0 running Repetier .92 Y Shifting issue

So a couple weeks ago I encountered the layer shifting on the x axis as what seems to be expected and used the cable chain mod on the x axis stepper. However today, on a 4 hour print (left unattended) I encountered layer shift on the Y axis, this baffles me since nothing moves around the y axis stepper. Does anyone have some thoughts?

I've attached a pic of the result. It appears to have shifted at least 8 times during the print job.

Re: 1.0 running Repetier .92 Y Shifting issue

I had an issue the stock board supplying too much current to the extruder and making it over heat to the point of failure when I went to Repetier. Could have been a bad stepper driver.

The steppers current on the stock board or digital controlled and under firmware control. I wonder if something in the firmware could be over driving the motors? A stepper motor that is over driven will cause layer dhifts just as one that is under driven

I can already confirm that a stock setup is sending way more current to the motors then needed. This is why the machines are so loud. After I went to a RAMPS 1.4 controller and set the current pots for 1.5mv my Da Vinci is so quite even in the same room from ten feet away, I have to check to see if it is running. The only sound from it now is the power supplies fan. That makes more noise than the motors.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

I did check the stepper temps immediately and I could hold my fingers on the steppers so they where definitely not hot.  I may have to look at heatsinks and a fan for the drivers.
