Topic: Discontinous extrusion

Hi, after a few good layers the extruder keeps stopping and restarting extruding at least once a layer. At the same time it makes wobbles coming from two different places (extruder and z axis). I have already tighten up the drive gear, cleaned the noozle, tried different setting and set the z offset value in slic3r as sugested in other forum discussion, but I still have the same problem. I use the solidoodle version of Repetier Host.
Anyone had a similar problem and knows how to fix it?

In the video you can see that the drive gear doesn't roll smoothly

Re: Discontinous extrusion

A little more information would help.
What temp and filament type & brand?  It may simply be too cold to flow properly.
It may also be the VREF for the extruder needs adjusting.

Printit Industries Model 8.10 fully enclosed CoreXY, Chamber heat
3-SD3's & a Workbench all fully enclosed, RH-Slic3r Win7pro, E3D V6, Volcano & Cyclops Hot End
SSR/500W AC Heated Glass Bed, Linear bearings on SS rods. Direct Drive Y-axis, BulldogXL
Thanks to all for your contributions

Re: Discontinous extrusion

The filamente is 1.75mm (solidoodle). I tried first at 230°C (235°C first layer) a few times and than at 210°C (215°C first layer), but the results are almost the same.
About the VREF, I didn't checked. Could you explain me how to set it?

Re: Discontinous extrusion

try this man (BUT ON YOUR RISK !!!!):

1) Loose the screws on the mainboard
2) Put something under the feet of the Press. (my recomendation is to place some books, since you can adjust the height.
3) On the mainboard there are some empty "sticks", named FAN. Connect a fan to there MAKE SURE YOU DONT SCRATCH ANY ELECTRONIC COMPONENT !!!
4) Put the running fan over the controller of the extruder. BUT MAKE SURE IS STAYS ON THE WIRES AND IT DOESNT TOUCH ANY ELECTRONICS !!! The mainboard stays on the ground, with the fan over that place.
5) Try to print something. If it work, print this:  http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:802165
6) Enjoy.

Re: Discontinous extrusion

If you're not already doing so, print with the lid open.

And also turn the fan around so it blows air into the extruder rather than sucking it out from it.

For me, the open lid was the solution, but the fan truly helps too.
