But first thing in the (((Hunny do list))) is to cut the grass! then i hit the 3d printer.

Setting up the firmware for the ramps took me a week. Hope you have better luck. I went with Marlin however as with my experience it run the motors smoother for some reason. Of course you can use Repetier or even Sprinter. Sprinter however has no LCD support and since my Ramps came with an LCD I wanted LCD support.

Once I get that done tomorrow I will post my copy of Marlin preset for a Ramps 1.4 id anyone once it. i will also get around to a write up on it with wiring color codes since I used the stock wires.

If you go with Ramps you will need to mount a fan so it blows directly on the board. The FET that controls the bed heater gets too hot without a fan and shuts down. Your bed temp will rise but then start to fall till it gets back to room temp. A fan solves this. It is a known problem with the RAMPS design. If you don't want to go the fan route you can use the FET on the RAMPS to drive a Relay that will switch the bed heater off and on. I would advise a DC solid state relay other wise you will here a constant clicking of the relay cycling.

Re: Da Vinci 1.0 got a new brain.

Hey carl, is there an alternative to the davinci stepper drivers? I dont have the old board with the steppers that are removable, the new board has the stepper drivers embedded into the board.

If your board has the drivers embedded then your option as an alternative would be to swap out the board with something like a RAMPS or many of the other controllers out there. There is no way to integrate after market drivers with the stock board if they are embedded.

I use Marlin, so it won't work with Repetier. If that is OK, then I can post it.

I'm going to use Marlin also so I think we're good there.
Thanks again

Well here it is with all the settings pretty much dialed in. You may want to confirm e-steps for your machine since every machine varies some.

Hi carl,

thanks a bunch! I'll check the e-steps and also I'll need to edit the commands for the second extruder. If you have any suggestions/opinions regarding this, feel free to share.

thanks again

Re: Da Vinci 1.0 got a new brain.

I am still working out some settings. Not sure if the thermistors I bought are just off, but they seem to read about 20 degrees higher then what I measure at the head with a thermocouple. Could just be the difference between external and internal temps. The issue is that my Shaxon stuff has to be set a rather abnormally high temp now to flow well and not jam the extruder. The stock stuff I have works fine a 210 but to get the Shaxon stuff to work OK I have to go to a set point of 285 or more.

So till I figure out what is up with the temp I am going to but off the write up. The bed temp is spot on. If I measure near the location of the thermistor it is only of by +/- 1. However on the far side of the bed you will see +/- 50 so the stock heater does have some cooler spots.

Did you change the thermistor tables? I dont know marlin. What beta is your thermistor that you are using?

I went to Microcenter to pick up some filament and they had B3 thermistors for 9 bucks. These had the screw in spring strain relief and all. Got one snd installed it and all works fine now.

So your temps are working now then?

Still 15 degrees off but that is the difference in the distance the thermistor is from the heater and the outside points I can get contact with to measure. The green filament I was having so much trouble with now prints at 265 like it's label says it should.

As for tables they should have been 1, at these thermistors I bought the first time where supposed to be standard EPCOS 100K but when I measured them they varied several K at room temp so I think they may have just been poor quality.

Re: Da Vinci 1.0 got a new brain.

I use a thermal laser gun that is pretty accurate for the cost. I picked it up at Home Depot for 30$. Helps me keep temps regulated.

Re: Da Vinci 1.0 got a new brain.

I have one as well but the head is so small it does not pick up the temp very well. I use a cooking thermometer that will go to 500c.

I flashed the  ((TEST Marlin.rar)) to my ramps 1.4 and all it did was blink?
