Topic: Burnt out all fans on my SD4, and only got 2 new, so which to replace?

I messed up, when I was wiring in my E3D v6, on my SD4.
Now the 4 stock fans are providers of magic smoke, but the E3D fan survived.

I was planing to replace a very noisy fan(The case vent fan), so I bought 2 new fans just to be safe.

But now I have to choose a bit more strategically, when placing them.

Where would you suggest to them?

This is how they where originally placed:
1. Extruder motor(Backside on a heatsink)
2. On the side of the extruder motor(Just directed on the motor)
3. Top case exhaust vent
4. Cooling fan on the board

I'm thinking the extruder motor on the heatsink is the first choice, and the second the cooling fan on the board.
I also got a 80mm fan, but that would properly be overkill.

E motor fan is crucial. It is in constant motion, so chalk that up as priority número uno.
Second fan needs to be on the board since SD designed the SD4 to house electronics inside the heated chamber.
This will get you back up and running until you can install other fans to your desire

Printit Mason and Printit Horizon printers
Multiple SD2s- Bulldog XL, E3D v5/v6/Lite6, Volcano, Hobb Goblin, Titan, .9 motor, Lawsy carriages, direct Y drive, fishing line...the list goes on
Filawinder and Filastruder #1870.....worth every penny!

If you have an E3d then the fan on the side of the extruder is not necessary at all - it was there to serve the same purpose as the E3d fan.  Keep the one in the back on the motor.  Keep the wires in the bundle for future use (you will want to add a fan shroud eventually).

Alright, as I said the E3D fan survived, so that part is covered.

1. Extruder motor with heat sink
2. E3D fan
3. Board fan

So with this I'll be up and running?

Another thing.
I've found conflicting info about the firmware setup.
What setting should "#define TEMP_SENSOR_0" be set at?
It's either 5 or 6, as far as I can tell.

Thanks for the help.

Re: Burnt out all fans on my SD4, and only got 2 new, so which to replace?

Well the kill count is up to 5 now.
I just found out the hard way, that the trained monkeys(Assuming they received training), that assembled my printer are color blind, and they switch the polarity in the Y-connector for the fans.

So now I'm down to one new fan, and the E3D fan.

Do the fans blow up if you reverse the polarity?  I'm used to them turning backwards, and I'd think the brushless ones might not work if reversed, but should work again when polarity as corrected.  Now I'm paranoid...

Some of them do die if you plug them in backwards. It's always good to be careful! smile

CQTM! They did that on mine, too.  Luckily, I noticed before applying power when I was adding my E3D.

I burned up all mine when I switched to the rumba. Red and black were reversed. Sheer incompetence.

Thanks for the offer, but I've have to decline, as I'm located in Denmark.
Theres a local store nearby, so I just have to make it before it closes.
