Topic: press stepper motor wire swap/replace

Hello,
my press is not passing filament thru it. When I hooked up the z-motor connection (from support email) and used that command--the gear turned completely. they have now sent replacement wire (see attached) but no instructions. To me , its not that simple.

Any tips or advice please.

thanks,
Tom

Re: press stepper motor wire swap/replace

I think that wire runs down from the stepper motor (top rear of the printer), down through the void between the two rear panels to the bottom of the printer. If you undo the screws on the bottom and pull the circuit board out, you'll see where the other end of the wire connects.

Re: press stepper motor wire swap/replace

Thanks, I did follow your steps.

I see 3 sets of (4 wire)white cable so I have to test which is which by pulling. They also sent me a rgb & black wire that I have no idea what to do with.
I can't believe they don't send me instructions for any of this. I consider it "very embarrassing" on their end.
And I have a support contract as well.

thanks again,
Tom

Re: press stepper motor wire swap/replace

The extruder cable plugs into the header labeled "E" on the board, on the right side toward the bottom in this photo. I do wish SD would post teardown instructions, especially if people are on their own for replacing parts. This is a coffee table machine, not a maker kit. (I can tear anything apart without directions, but snap-oops, maybe I shouldn't have done it that way.)

Re: press stepper motor wire swap/replace

thanks for the pix.

I've swapped out the cable but now my extruder/retracter functions are flipped. i've double checked the cable connections and they seem properly inserted. Now I will send another reply email.

Re: press stepper motor wire swap/replace

ok......but the molex connection doesn't allow that?

Re: press stepper motor wire swap/replace

Swap the middle two wires with your tweezers to pop them out.

Re: press stepper motor wire swap/replace

I am willing to attempt to swap but Solidoodle support has yet to reply to the issue. ..I mean they did ship me the wire

....another week wasted.....What am I paying support for?

Re: press stepper motor wire swap/replace

So they now sent me a replacement wire and the commands work proper. Waste of a month. But the extruder gear does not turn with filament only when "empty" Its like i am back at square one after all this.

I have a 38 email chain with support.

I have asked them in several emails if I could send the press in for eval. They never answer that question. Why? Why? Why?
I don't know whats worse--there ignoring support requests or their poor product.

They sent me a link for adjusting trimpots. So now i have to  buy a voltmeter?

sorry for the rant.
