I down loaded all the upgrades for awhile and my printer started doing weird things like the 0030 and the X printing offline.  So I reset my printer to the original when it was new and it prints fine now.  There software causes all kinds of problems so don't update any software and your printer will work fine.

it would be helpful to know what kind of printer you are talking about, and what software specifically you were upgrading...
