Topic: layer heights?

so I got the calculator for the layer heights for .1 .2 .3
from the calculator.

but what should the first layer height be for .1 and .2

it seems like if I make first layer height for .1, .1 it wont lay a good enough layer.
and about the same for .2

am I missing something.

I have to resort to using my maker bot for PLA and would like to have both options and not just one.

Re: layer heights?

For a 5/16" threaded rod:
.09878=.1
.1976=.2
.2963=.3

Also, what do you mean it won't lay a first layer? Does it curl up the first few layers? Are you using a fan?

Re: layer heights?

If setup so you are getting the proper squish at your .3 layer height you should probably just use that number .2963mm as a first layer height for your .1 and .2 layers.  You can only squish so much before filament won't extrude properly.

Re: layer heights?

I have a SWA as well. I recommend using RH. I would even say do not use the one that Solidoodle has as it is an older version. Get the latest one and input the information supplied by SD for the parameters.
