Topic: Speed up printing of complicated model

I recently printed this pencil holder(http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:745475) and it took a really long time. I printed at normal scale with 0.2mm layer height.

I found that my printer spent a lot of time, more than half it seemed, just waiting. It would print one piece of the many vertical design line elements, wait a few seconds, then move on to the next.

I want to reprint this design, but I am wondering if there are any ways to speed up printing without losing quality.

Sounds to me like you have a minimum time per layer set? Reduce that and it will reduce the time the printer waits between layers. If that's where the problem lies...

It's probably worth checking your retract settings in slic3r (if you are using slic3r).  I set mine to only retract when crossing perimeters and length to 1mm and retract on layer change unchecked.
