Topic: Printing Clear ABS

Hello all

Now that my 1.0 is not running carts, I would like to experiment with different types of ABS. I see that there are a handful
of brands that offer clear ABS. The clear will dovetail nicely into my current project.

Has anyone modded (covered) their filament sensor as yet. I can't find any info on how to do it anywhere.

Cheers,

John

Re: Printing Clear ABS

What you mean cover it?? When I changed to e3d nozzle I used the original board for the fan and thermistor and what not and just bent one end of a short piece of filament placed it in the sensor and bent it at the other end

Re: Printing Clear ABS

I don't bother covering the sensor.
Instead, I just put a piece of normal filament in the top without pushing it through the gears then start the print. Once the message "building" disappears from the LCD, I remove the normal filament and load the clear filament pushing it right the way in this time.
A decent sized skirt is enough to prime the filament.

Re: Printing Clear ABS

Thanks scobo.

I'll try that once I receive my spool of clear. I had to get rid of the extruder connector last week (0011 error) and I didn't want to have to cut the wires again just to remove the extruder for this.

@ L.woinson95. You answered your own question. You are able to get away with that because you're using a different nozzle. I'm still on my original extruder assembly...for now anyway smile

Re: Printing Clear ABS

I covered my sensor with black tape and use clear all the time.  The Zen Tool Works works nice (here is my review on Amazon with some pics ; http://www.amazon.com/gp/review/R3RZXY5 … 009LDWST8)

I just ordered some Bumat because the Zen has been out of stock for a while.

Re: Printing Clear ABS

I ordered some from DIYinks on ebay,, it doesn't say what brand it is,, gonna give it a try... They are cheap as any place else, I'll just have to test it and see if it's good or crap,, will let you know next week.

Re: Printing Clear ABS

I covered my sensor today. I just have to wait for my clear to show up so I can confirm that it works...

I'm thinking black paint may be better than using electrical tape though.
