Re: Filament Shortage!

I just purchased a cartridge resetter off of eBay. Since I use Simplify3d, getting rid of XYZware will be pretty painless. We'll see how the firmware downgrade works out.

I contacted XYZPrinting support and explained that their business model is skewed if they force people to use their proprietary cartridges and then have supply chain issues.

They are basically encouraging their customers to hack their machines to use third-party filament.

Win 8.1
Improved Da Vinci 1.0 with Firmware 1.2.5 and stock extruder
Arduino cartridge resetter and after-market ABS filament
TinkerCAD, Netfabb, Simplify3D

Most people don't need to be encouraged...LOL We like to take stuff apart!!

Re: Filament Shortage!

The Microcenter near has about 8 cartridges of black sitting on their shelf. It looks to me the brick and mortar stores have more in stock than online stores.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!
Anycubic 4MAX best $225 ever invested.
Voxelabs Proxima SLA. 6 inch 2k Mono LCD.
Anycubic Predator, massive Delta machine. 450 x 370 print envelope.

Re: Filament Shortage!

I was at the Microcenter in Detroit last week and there was a whole ton of other brands, a handful of XYZ in various colors but no black anywhere to be found.

A lot of online sites say they are expecting black to come in....in MAY! Really?

I'm in the middle of printing a Staughton chess set so I need BLACK!!! big_smile

You have to block net traffic from xyzware.exe, but other than that, I like my xyzerocart, though it is pricey,, but worth it for machines under warranty..  Fedex just delivered my used DaVinci 1.0 I got from ebay for $309. had to replace a leveling nut, calibrated it and it ran great.. printed the demo perfectly..  Oh,, I leave an old cartridge setting on top of my zerocart to hold it down.. I think I'll run some wires from the unused  right side of my zerocart over to the other printer and see if I can run 2 printers from one zerocart just for sh@ts & giggles..

Interesting about putting the cartridge on top of the zerocart, I have had a few problems with it coming disconnected mid print and I even printed out a new case but still same problem.
It is a good idea but bad design, it really needs to positively click into place, it just has two flat tabs that go down each side of the davinci board.

I ended up going back to flashing my cartridge as I got fed up with the zerocart stopping my prints mid way through, I must try putting the cartridge on top like you see if it cures it.

Re: Filament Shortage!

Step two: Make a hanger and run the after-market filament. FU, XYZprinting and your proprietary cartridge crap.

I've never had an issue since I set one on top of it,, agree, with you on the design,, I also made a clip so I could use the right side of the zerocart to run my other Davinci via some old phone cable and a clip for the inside of a used filament cartridge.. It works, but if one printer is off, it causes a buzzer to sounds,, I may have the wires reversed,, but I now now it is possible to run 2 printers off of 1 zerocart.. I am going to reflash the firmware to Repeatier though and probably won't use this set-up.
