Topic: slic3r problems

heya all glad i found this place finally but first time i've really run into any issues.

Unfortuntly i'm stumped with some issues i'm getting in slic3r.

I've switched to using the 0.1mm profile and with a coupele of tweaks was printing fine apart from some holes appearing in the top of prints and some issues with some overhangs, in trying to sort these i increased the top horizontal shells and obviously have changed something else.

Now even when going back to the previous profile I am constantly chopping off the bottom of anything i try to print. I like slic3r and have been enjoying it and would really like to work out what I've done, rather than just change to something else. I'm hoping someone here can point me in the right direction of what I've messed up whatever it is seems persistent and rather annoying. I'm yet to just clear everything and try a fresh install to clear the settings etc but doesn't stop me making same mistake in future so figured i'd come to the experts before i go walking to the dark with my sunglasses on again.

Re: slic3r problems

Posting a picture of an example could help troubleshoot this.  What do you have set for solid layer bottom shells?

Re: slic3r problems

would post a picture expect i've binned the parts. will print a new one if needed

Bottom is set to 4 layers currently. It's operating as if it just misses all of those bottom layers and just starts form the first perimeter layers.

It's not just a case of it missing the gcode out or something as i have it print a skirt currently and it prints that as part of the first actually printed layer.

At first i thought it was the stl itself but then I ran a job using an stl I had printed already with the .1mm profile and got this result again. As I said I thought I had only changed the top setting but obviously not and when importing the settings from a fresh copy of the file etc same effect so must have saved something somewhere, just no idea what.

Re: slic3r problems

That sounds like a bug.  Maybe try an earlier version, or go back to the original solid layer setting and see if it goes away.    You might just need to download Slic3r 093 and point Repetier to it for that print.
