Topic: New to da Vinci, but not to 3D.What I fixed and what I need help with.

This is my second 3d printer. My first is a makerbot clone.  I was happy with it, but it recently ran into a motor problem, and so I decided to do some upgrading. I'm waiting for my parts to come from china.

In the mean time I could not be without a 3d printer(my addiction), and choose the Davinci Ai0.

Support seems to be a problem.  But so did my makerbot clones so I was used to it.

Here are problems I have addressed.

1st.My printer was printing ovals no circles when I got it.  Easy solution though. My x xis rods were mis aligned. Problems solved.

2nd.  Bed was not calibrated, and I would a get a calibration error.  Problem fixed by manually setting the bed level.

3rd. I did not want to use that stick of glue each time.   I added kapton tape on my glass, and now my printer stick fine, come out fine. Got that on ebay.

4th. I hate the smell of ABS it give me headaches. So I made a plastic vent hood plus extra filament holder. Please note. It was fun, and I enjoy working with acrylic.   I added a few pics. You can't see it, but there is a fan on the inside as well. I vent the air outside.

I should note that I used to work for a company for a few years where I learned a lot about fabricating acrylic displays, and that job experience came in handy.  It's nice when you can use something you have learned for you own hobby.

Now I need your help.

My software version is 1.1.34.7 and there is no PLA option what about yours? I am wondering if it just detects PLA cartridge, and changes the temps, as I have not seen anywhere to change temps manually.

Scanning is not that great. Any tips?

Does anyone know if the reset chips will work on the Ai0?

The cartridges have a chip as you know. That chip tells the printer what type of filament it is and wjat the temps are to set. As for a resetter it is more about your current version firmware than it is machine. Maybe someone else know which versions are a no go. I jail broke my Da Vinci 1.0 with Repetier firmware and host.

As for the scanner it is a known isdue with no real fix. It has limitations in the fact an object needs to be more of a matte finish. Not reflective and not transparent. It reads refections of the lasers but not direct reflections.

It also cannot effectively scan anything that is less than two inches in size. That includes parts on the main body of your object. The scanner is.more of a novelty and to be expected for the price. Quality scanners would run nearly as much as the printer. There is also the Xbox Kinect hack that converts it to a scanner that has results much better than the Aio.
