Re: PTFE tubing

Guys - the question was about the stock extruder. Has nothing to do with E3D specs.

I'd actually be interested in exploring the original question further - i.e.: can the stock throat be replaced with a PTFE-lined threaded tube (for example: http://amzn.to/1GfUqNv). If so, would the nozzle also need replacement? What impact would that have on proper functioning with stock firmware or Repetier firmware?

Thanks for returning some sanity to the thread montressor. big_smile
That looks like an interesting possibility.

Have you got access to any machinery?

I don't, but I do have a brother-in-law (in another city) who has a machine shop. I've toyed with the idea of asking him to build parts out for me - presumably out of brass (hotend) and aluminum (throat)?

Re: PTFE tubing

Well a lathe with a 4 jaw chuck so you could bore it out and hot end could even be made out of stainless stops certain material oxidizing or reacting with the brass.

I'm going to make some of the E3D hot end parts out of super-alloys from work I think would be better

Wouldn't mind seeing how that goes. Keep us updated. wink

Re: PTFE tubing

Will do

The reason if your asking about the 4 jaw is so you can move each of the jaws to ensure that it is running true other wise you will not be able to machine it accurately and will more than likely scrap it off

Re: PTFE tubing

OK guys let me see if I can clarify I have a E3D v6  hotend the PTFE tube goes to the tip of the hotend and stops.

And as far as the other question I took my stock hotend flipped it over on the nozzle side drilled it dead center tapped it added another nozzle (bad part I didn't have the right drill bit so it was a little big, the nozzle wouldn't stay in) as far as the other end you would have to make some kind of a adapter to fit the thread where the throat screws in (DA Vinci was slick they use a 6mm skinny thread) and if you are able to do that next problem is the bottom bracket where the hotend bolts to  it has a I believe a 8mm opening.  I had a old aluminum small coupler I used drilled a bigger hole to fit the throat in.  If you are able to accomplished lastly you will have to cranked the bed down tremendously to make everything work.  In other words too much work

Another experiment I did was I bought another hot used the coupler I made to fill the gap so the the throat would sit in the bracket centered.  I'm not sure if the hotends block will work up against the bottom bracket so I put a oversized bolt which was about 3 to 4mm high in between the block and the bottom bracket. It printed good for a short while. I'm not sure if that throat was lined or I could have ruined it when I torched it, it started jamming.  The down side to this setup is the average throat is about 26mm long so for this to really work you would need at least a 30mm throat to make everything come together. I had to remove the fan just to get the filament loaded.

[s]Also evanalmighty there is no PEEK in an e3d v6, v5 yes, but not the V6.  The heat break is stainless and the heat sink is aluminum. That's it. [/s]

There is no PEEK in the E3Dv5 either, or any of E3D's products for that matter.
