Topic: Z Axis Movement Causing Horrendous Noises and Sticking

Hi. My Z-Axis now makes an awful noise when I move up and down. It sounds partially like something os fouling against the case fan. How do I get to that to check? The YouTube videos below show what I mean. The buzzing sound is what I think is something hitting the fan blades. But in addition, I get a huge clunk sound. When it does that, the bed visibly jerks quite badly. I suspect this will affect large prints.

Can anyone tell me which screws I need to remove to access the back section of the printer to see what is going on?

Re: Z Axis Movement Causing Horrendous Noises and Sticking

OK I fixed this myself. I managed to remove the plastic cover that sits vertically at the back of the machine. This covers the z axis spindles and the large screw which adjusts the height of the bed. What was happening was that the back of the bed mount was catching on the bottom clip for the case fan every time it went up or down. Eventually, it actually loosened it enough to pop the fan out of its housing. Then the fan blades were catching on the back of the bed.

Took the cover off, re-secured the fan, and off it went. I left the plastic interior trim panel off to make it an easy fix in case it happens again. Also, without the trim panel, the bed seems to sit a fraction of a millimetre further out, which stops it hitting that fan mount in the first place.

I assume this panel is only cosmetic and no harm is done by leaving it off?

Consumer device? Unconvinced.
