Topic: Does anyone else have problems when using supports in their prints

When ever I use supports even light supports after I remove the support I a very ugly surface that loses most of the quality.  Is there any way to define where the supports should be so I can reduce the effect.

I try to print in the Z axis as much as possible to avoid supports, but I have been using them lately inside holes and chamfers on this special project I've been working on and actually they are doing pretty good.. I have noticed after doing a great job of bed leveling and having that first layer squished makes a big difference on all my prints.. You can smooth things out with acetone if they aren't terribly bad..

Simplify3d allows you to place supports manually but you have to pay for it.
The only free software I know of that has this function is Meshmixer. It allows you to export a new STL which you then load up in your slicer.

Checkout out Craftware. To my knowledge has all the functions of Simplyfy3D but it is free.

Printing since 2009 and still love it!

I regularly print a magazine loader. It is printed upside down to avoid using support but unfortunately the DaVinci is not great at spanning gaps.

Adding manual support with Simplify3d allows me to place it in such a way that when the print is complete, the support literally falls away with no marring of the part whatsoever.

For that alone, it's worth the $140 I paid for it.

I hate using supports and avoid where possible, had a lot of issues with fine supports no sticking on first layer and only way around it was to use a raft
