Topic: Extruder Jams

OK, apart from my issue with printing at high resolution (posted elsewhere), I have just tried a larger print at 0.3mm. All of my test prints have been small items so far. This time I tried a larger object (still only about 1"x1"x2" though), and my printer is doing a really annoying thing. It basically jams every 40 layers or so. If I grip the filament and apply downwards pressure, it starts extruding again. But it does it again after about another 40 layers. And so on. Haven't managed a single print of 40 layers or more without this happening. I tried completely cleaning the extruder head out with acetone in case there was something clogging it. No difference.

Re: Extruder Jams

If it's a long print, try printing with the lid up. The extruder doesn't cool well.
I don't know if suggestion applies to your print - it's not very big. But it's easy to try.

Re: Extruder Jams

Thanks, I'll give that a go. Like you say, it's a small print, but worth a try. It does seem to happen after a period of running, so maybe it is heat. Worth a go!

Re: Extruder Jams

Have you tried turning the extruder fan around like a couple of people on here including myself.  When it was installed, many were installed blowing AWAY from the extruder, simply switch it around so it blows air across the extruder, might help.

Re: Extruder Jams

Thanks! I've done both of these, and both improved it a bit. Someone else pointed me towards my extrusion multiplier setting, and that seems to have clinched the final bit. It's printing at 0.1 resolution now and it looks a lot better already. About 25% done and no jams or gaps.
