Topic: Printer stops during print

Has anyone had their printer stop during a print? I had it happen a couple times where it will be printing and then all of a sudden stop and act like it is finished. The extruder returns home and the heaters turn off. Today it happened after printing about 30 minutes. I thought it might have been the model, but I reset the printer loaded the model again and it printed for about 6 hours and got almost done and then stopped. I am using Slic3r to generate the gcode. I have had this happen also just using the XYS software.

Any thoughts? Also, is there any way to figure out where it might have left off and continue the print? I haven't removed the model from the bed yet.

Thanks!

Once the head moves home there is no way to resume as the last coordinates are lost.  As for it just stopping in mid print it could be any number of things, and very hard to narrow down. Does it show on the display that it is complete and it starts the cool down operation?

Re: Printer stops during print

Is your filament cartridge losing contact with the connector at the bottom?

I've read that if the cartridge is not completely seated and moves during a print, the connection is broken between the chip and the printer and the printer assumes that there is no filament and halts the print.

That's what puzzles me is that the screen shows that everything is complete. The head moved back, cooled down and the bed lowered.

I'll have to check and see about the cartridge. I did re-set the cartridge the other day and will have to make sure that the clip is in good.

Re: Printer stops during print

If the status shows the print as being complete when it isn't then I assume your slicing software is not doing a good job. Have you verified that the .stl files are good? Maybe upload one of them to Netfabb and see if they need to be repaired.

I sliced a phone case a while back and the generated print example showed the majority of the model had disappeared. Once I repaired the file, it was fine.

Good luck!

Re: Printer stops during print

I didn't run this model through Netfab, but it ended at different times today using the same model. I'm printing a different model now, and will see what it looks like in the morning.

Thanks!
