Topic: installing e3d v6 on my SD3?

anyone have a write up on how to do this correctly.

I followed step by step instructions on putting in my V5,
and because of that I didn't learned anything.

so Im just looking for step by step instructions on how to put the e3d v6 on my solidoodle 3.

any help with this would be awesome.

thankyou,
Ryan M.

Re: installing e3d v6 on my SD3?

It's actually easier than the v5 since you don't have to mess with kapton this time around.
Simply follow the instructions on the wiki. Once you get to the step with the thermistor, use the insulation provided and cut it in half, then slide the pieces onto each leg of the thermistor. Use the provided screw+washer (do not forget the washer) and gently tighten it into the heating block. Then do the final heat tightening as before and off you go!

Don't forget to adjust your Z height as you will have gained more space.

Re: installing e3d v6 on my SD3?

ok cool.
but what side does the nozel screw into?
is there a polarity when wiring up the thermistor?
is there a polarity when wiring up the heat wires?
and since I reformatted my computer, I would need to do the adrino thing again correct?

this stuff confuses the crap out of me, and since its been awhile since ive done this, it feels NEW to me.

Re: installing e3d v6 on my SD3?

The tutorial shows which side of block nozzle goes. And no and no on thermistor and hotend. And you would have to reflash for new thermistor and to set max temp on hotend since it go considerably hotter than stock one

"All your base are belong to us." SD4 with a RUMBA, supernight PS, 40mm fan on X motor, lawsey carriages with new better tolerance rods, flanged rear bearings, new NEMA 17 with leadscrew on Z-Axis, and e3d v6 with MK5.

big_smile Hurray for the last one, right?

He already has the E3D v5, so it would be a simply mechanical swap.

Re: installing e3d v6 on my SD3?

a simple mechanical swap?
I cut all my wires and it looks like my plugs are now $H!t
so I have to resort to rewiring and using horribly big automotive plugs.

so its not an easy swap now, right?

my V5 melted the shit of of all the old wire and such,
that is why all my wires are cut,

I know what goes where. I just have no idea what im doing.

Re: installing e3d v6 on my SD3?

Sorry totally misread about him having the v5...sorry about that mate, than no on the reflash. In that case than as Azerate said...I really should start reading the posts fully

Re: installing e3d v6 on my SD3?

I understand...I wasn't trying to downplay your dilemma, so don't take offense.

You can twist the new and old wires together (firmly) then use some heatshrink to insulate.
Run the heater wires as far back to the board as you like, then splice into your old connector lines. If you suck at electrical work like me, 5" should be more than enough room for error. The v6 should have come with some new wires with a simple 2 pin connector. Treat this the same as splicing the heater, crimp the ferrule as the wiki shows, then heatshrink the connectors individually.
And don't forget to use the 2 remaining screws to secure the heater cartridge.

Re: installing e3d v6 on my SD3?

is there a video of this some where.
I don't get what wiki is telling me and what you are saying.
im very visual.

ill have a go at it.
but really don't want to fuck this printer up anymore.

Re: installing e3d v6 on my SD3?

I understand completely. Unfortunately I don't own a v6 or I would be happy to shoot a video for you.
I've assembled a few v6 for others, have two v5 and one with the Volcano (strikingly similar....but still different), so I cannot accurately display the assembly.

Maybe a friendly user around here could at least show some detailed pics?

Re: installing e3d v6 on my SD3?

My printer is in motion but here's a picture of mine put together. It's difficult to see but the thermistor head goes into the hole and is held down by the screw+washer. I replaced mine in a hurry so it's not exactly a perfect job.

It is not operational yet, I am designing a duct. Just been too busy to finish it.

Re: installing e3d v6 on my SD3?

Go directly to the E3d sight they have great pictures in the document section.
If you flashed for the V5 you don't need to do it again.  Also like AZERATE said run the new wires all the way back to the board and do your splice there.

Did you actually flash the board before to change max temp?  If yes you don't need to do it twice.
Your computer has nothing to do with it.

Re: installing e3d v6 on my SD3?

The wiki seems to be down right now, if it's not too much trouble can I get a list of the changes I need to make in Marlin before flashing the board?

Re: installing e3d v6 on my SD3?

#define SOLIDOODLE_VERSION 2 (line 22 on mine) Change to #define SOLIDOODLE_VERSION 3
#define MOTHERBOARD  62 (line #76 on mine…you can tell the line by clicking the code, and looking at the bottom left, a number will be there, this is the line of code)
Change it to read #define MOTHERBOARD 81 this is if you have a Printrboard. Some SD3s have Sanguinololu

Find #define TEMP_SENSOR_0 1 (line 120 ) and change to #define TEMP_SENSOR_0 5

Find #define HEATER_0_MAXTEMP 225 (line145)  change to #define HEATER_0_MAXTEMP 290
