Topic: Colorfabb Copperfill

Well, after some pretty good results with Glowfill, Bronzefill and Woodfill, I thought I'd try some Copperfill.
Unfortunately it hasn't gone so well.
After 3 hours of fighting with it, the best I managed was 2 or 3 layers of a 20mm cube.
However, I just found this on the Colorfabb site ....

"The fact that the filament heats up easier in the nozzle usually means for most printers to print at lower temperatures and keep the filament moving through the nozzle by printing at relatively high speeds."

So I wondered if anyone else has had any luck printing this and what speed/temps they're using ?

Still no luck with the Copperfill after several attempts and various speeds/temps.
I even tried a faster extruder fan but couldn't print more than a couple of layers before it blocked in the barrel just before the nozzle.
The Colorfabb website does state that it transfers heat more than other filaments and I've come to conclusion that a stock 1.0 extruder just can't cope with it. Perhaps a better heatsink arrangement would work ??
I've had better luck with the Bamboofill though, seems to print about as well as the Woodfill although I think I prefer the look of the Woodfill.

2mm cube printed at 0.2mm, 190C and 30mm/s ....

Finally had some success with the copperfill ........ just as it was about to run out, doh !
I managed a complete print at 0.4mm layer height although the infill was a mess.
So as a last resort, with the last metre I had left, I tried the veg oil trick. And it worked great !
(Shame I didn't think of that earlier)
I was able to print 2/3 of a 20mm cube at 0.3mm before it ran out. I was also able to slow the print speed down to 30mm/s so the infill was much better. Previously, I could only get it to print at 40mm/s or more.
So if anyone's thinking of trying copperfill with the 1.0 stock extruder, veg oil is definitely the way to go.

Great, I haven't had the chance to buy the copperfill filaments but I was looking foward to your conclusions. Do you have pics of your progress?

Not very exciting, just a couple of 20mm test cubes.
This is the one I managed to finish at 0.4mm without veg oil but as you can see the infill was a mess resulting in a poor top layer finish.

This is the one at 0.3mm using veg oil just before I ran out of the sample of copperfill.
Much better infill probably due to the lower layer height and slower print speed I was able to use.
I reckon the top layer would have been fine if I hadn't run out of filament.

Those look nice!!!
Do you think that adding a fan to the extrusion will add more consistency to the print layers (and/or top layers)?

A layer fan would certainly help with really small prints but I don't think you'd need it on most other prints. Once you get the right speed, temperature and bed height, it prints about as well as ABS or PLA.
Here's a cube I finished with Bronzefill ....

As you can see the top layer is near perfect. It was printed at 0.2mm and at speed of 25mm/s.
